My dad just lost his job...
So my dad just lost his job after working at a company for +12 years... he called me and asked me what's the next step for him? I told him to fill out the PA unemployment claim online... anything else he can apply so he can pay his mortage, food, etc? Anyone else know what else he could apply for? He is devastated and I wish I had more answers for him...
Thank you!
Re: My dad just lost his job...
The MM ladies may have some ideas/suggestions too.
Another step would be to get him some resume writing/interviewing help.
What was his field of work?
My sympathies that this happened to your dad. I pray he finds a good job quickly.
I have to agree that he needs to look into getting unemployment and help with covering the lack of medical insurance. Looking into food stamps is a must too. None of these are permanent solutions but are a great resource to help him when he is down after loosing his job.
He should also look to find any community programs and churches that can help him out too. If they can not do anything they could point him in the right direction.
As momma liberty said he should seek help updating his resume and interview skills.
Not familiar w PA, but definitely unemployment right away. He shouldn't feel ashamed of needing to accept any other kind of aid like medicaid, food stamps etc. I'm not sure what field he is in, but I highly recommend staffing agencies. Some deal with mainly temp work, others will help to find more permanant placements or at least contract positions. Many people end up getting hired permanently after temping.
My heart goes out to him. I know it isn't easy.
