I am applying for a HR job. I have experience in HR from 2000-2008. I was laid off, and couldn't find an HR job, so I took a job in medical billing, where I stayed until 2011. At that time, I left to have my son, and never went back.
My family has a small construction business that I currently do office work for part-time, but it doesn't relate at all, and I'm afraid if I put it on the resume, it will look like a second job that is NOT HR related. If I don't, I will look stagnant for an entire year.
How do I explain all this? Should I even include the p/t work for the fam business?
Re: Resume Q!
You do not need to put need to mention anything about the year gap on your resume. No need to explain taking a year off to have a kid and raise them on the resume. Although I you can if you want. It is up to you if you would want to put down the part time job at the family business.
If they ask you tell them the truth." It was not my ideal job so I decided to take time off to birth and raise a child." This is a full time job in of itself. "I did however do filling work for my parents/ grandparents business during that year."
A resume is supposed to make you look good. A job application is legal and everything must be listed.
This is good advice and well said. Thank you so much for breaking it down for me!
