Kauai and Maui Hotel Recs needed

We've been to Maui but have never been to Kauai.  We liked where we stayed in Maui last time but right now it looks like the rates are much higher than the last time we went so I'm looking for other options.  Since we've never been to Kauai, I definitely need help there.  Thanks!

Re: Kauai and Maui Hotel Recs needed

  • what range/amenities? I stayed in an incredible private house in Maui that was surrounded by jungle with an outdoor shower, but not cheap.
  • Last time we were able to get oceanfront at the Kaanapali Beach Club for around $200 a night (and it's a nice property).  I'd prefer to stay under $300 a night if possible and we want a nice resort with nice pool on the beach.  We generally stay at 4 star places.
  • Maui - we stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea this past Fall. It's a gorgeous resort with a nice pool area and beautiful beach. All the rooms are suites with a separate bedroom and a huge bathroom with double pedestal sinks, separate soaker tub and shower. Loved it!  As far as rates go, it's definitely upscale, just under $400 for their standard room I believe.

Kauai - we always stay at the Kauai Marriott since we own a TS there. It's located on Kalapaki Bay in Lihue, only 10 min from the airport. It's a super nice resort, newly renovated rooms and has one of the largest pools in Hawaii (has a cool little island in the middle). There's a large beach area and the water is swimmable. It has five restaurants/cafes on site including Duke's (our fave) and it's within walking distance to other restaurants and shops. I've seen rates as low as just over $200/night here on special.

p.s. See pic of the Kauai Marriott in my sig below.

  • We really liked the West Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas.  If we went back, we'd probably stay there again.
  • Grand Wailea, Marriot Wailea
