Ballpark cost for Southeast Asia or South America in April?
My sweetie and I are still unsure where we want to take our next big trip but I'm trying to get a sense of ballpark cost, per person, for such a vacation. We're not fancy resort people but we're active adventure types so lots of activity costs. I'm thinking 10ish days. The only estimates I've found are $4000 each.
Anyone have an idea or a good website with info?

It's totally going to depend where in South American and where in Southeast Asia. I'd just start pricing stuff out, look at airfare to various countries, look on tripadvisor for a few hotels, etc.
Depending on where you are coming from, I'd think $2000 for the two of you is a fairly good estimate for your main flight. On top of that, my husband and I spent another $3000 for our 10 day Argentina trip, so $8000 sounds like a lot. But, if we had flown down to Patagonia or flown to Iguazu falls I can see how that cost would rise quickly. Same with Southeast Asia - again it depends where in the region and on a lot of other factors, but when you can get street food in Thailand for like a dollar and a decent private room in a hostel for like $40 or less, $8000 for ten days seems like a lot.
Guidebooks can also help (and I think Lonely Planet has daily estimates) when it comes to avg hotel/hostel cost, bus fare, meals, etc.
