Diaper Issues

See, this is all the exciting stuff you get to talk/think about when your a mom...

KR has developed a really bad rash which the doctor says is excema. I had this REALLY bad when I was younger, I would scratch until I bled because there was no relief.

So now KR has it on his lower back/butt cheek. I switched diapers to Luvs, but it didn't help much. I tried 7th generation, and those helped a lot.

The thing is, they don't make those kind of 7th generation ones anymore.

So I'm on the lookout for a new diaper.

I originally wanted to try to cloth diaper, but DH shot that one down because he does the laundry, but now it's not looking so bad, but I'm not sure if I really want daycare to deal with that.

Thoughts? opinions? Suggestions?

Re: Diaper Issues

  • Have you tried changing his diet? Sometimes dietary changes can help to eliminate eczema. Also, could it be teething related? Some kids get a nasty rash whenever they are teething because it changes the composition of their poop.

I'm all for cd's (and the laundry is REALLY easy!), but if you are using any ointment you will need a liner so you don't stain the diapers (there are a few cd friendly diaper ointments, but if you need a steroid cream, you would need a liner).

Earths best makes diapers, and 7th gen should still have a chlorine free diaper out (if I remember right). Huggies pure and natural is what we use when we travel-a has sensitive skin and they work well for him since 7th gen have a bad fit for him.

If you are thinking cd's I would be happy to fill you in on what I know-just shoot me an email. Also, there is Jillian's drawers for doing a trial with-their trials rock!

  • Kyle gets really bad eczema and I've found that using the Aveeno baby eczema products help a lot. Try the oatmeal bath and let him soak in it for as long as he will sit in the tub.

  • We use a mix of cloth and disposables. With disposables we either use huggies pure and natural or natures babycare. I have wanted to try bambo ones that they have on amazon but haven't needed to. I have used 7th generation but wasn't a fan.

I was looking at the Bambo ones on Amazon, I'm debating on whether to try those...

  • My step son has really bad excema and we'd have him take baths in baking soda. I've read that this is good for babies with ongoing diaper rash issues as well.

Ella's only ever had one bad diaper rash and it was a yeast infection. We ended up using hydracortizone mixed with an antifungal and A&D.
