How Often Do You...

Spend time with your girlfriends?

For the last 6 years I had been in VT for school, therefore I only saw my friends briefly on visits home once a month or so. In January, DH and I moved back to where my family and friends live. Before getting a full-time job in May we would hang out 3-4 times a week, mostly at nights into the wee hours. Now that I am working 9-5 M-F after work I spend time relaxing with DH and catching up on household chores plus I go to bed much earlier than I used to. I am usually too exhausted to get together with the girls after work.

We typically only get to hang out on the weekends and it's complicated because 2 of them don't work and mostly want to get out of the house on weekends, whereas as I would prefer to actually spend the night in, in my house I am rarely at during the week plus going out is so expensive where we live. We still chat via text and FB messenger a few times a week. I suppose it's something we will all figure out eventually, but it bothers me because they get together tons of times during the week and I guess I just feel jealous I can't do that...

How often do you get together with your girlfriends?

Re: How Often Do You...

  • I have 3 really good girlfriends....and i don't live near any of them... I never really had a LOT of friends.. but the ones I have are damn good. Anyways.. I moved 2.5 hours away from "home" almost 2 years ago... one of the other girls moves accross the country almost a year ago now, and the other 2 still live in the same city though I know they rarely see each other. I miss them like crazy! Where i live now, with H... i've made a few friends, but i'm very much a homebody... i LIKE staying in and reading/watching tv/walking the dog... i'm not a partier. H's friends from highschool... for the most part are still partying and H isn't into that anymore either. Needless to say we don't hang out with friends a lot. I go out for lunch every once in a while with a couple of the girls i've met around town. But in terms of at night.. it's usually H and I hangin out at home..and on weekends we do stuff with groups of people every once in a while.

When I do go home i see my girlfriends, usually without H at least once. We'll go for breakfast or something. We'll hang out in groups with their significant others too.. luckily everyone gets along.

  • I felt like I lost a lot of my friends when I went back to school and was working and first dating H, just because of having no time to hang out, so these days I spend more time with my 'marrieds' friends in couples, then with just the girls.

I do have one good friend who I try and do something with 'just the two of us' at least 1 or 2 a month because shes the kind of person who we can be honest and open and talk about literally anything with, and its worth making sure it happens!

  • Most of my good friends live OOT, but I talk to them a few times a week.  We have a lot of couple friends here that we usually see a few times a month.  I have one single girlfriend who just moved to Atlanta from Ohio.  I see her about twice a week, but a lot of times DH is with us too.

  • Well with MIL it's a little more difficult now but before it was maybe once a month. Everyone has so much going on in their life right now. One of them we usually double dated since her FI is H's cousin. But my best friend lives 3 hours away and in another state so it's more difficult to get together. H and I are going to plan a weekend trip over to see her as soon as we can.
  • My really good girlfriends all live 2.5-3 hours away. Two of my good friends from college who live in Boston, we usually get together every other month or so for a weekend. My best friend and MOH lives in RI, where I grew up so I try to see her whenever I'm home or we'll meet half way for a dinner/movie date.

I've made a couple of friends where H & I live now and we usually get together once a month or every other month. Going out gets expensive so I try to keep it to every other week or so, with catching up with all of the different girlfriends.

  • All of my real girlfriends live 2 hours away.  I try to see at least one of them every time I go home which is normally once or twice a month.  I wish I could see them more and when I live and worked at home we would go out every Thursday and then sometimes weekends as well.  Now we just talk and text a lot.

  • Since I moved over 3 hours away after we got married, I don't really have girlfriends here. SIL lives a couple blocks away from us, and shes been a really good friend of mine since H and I started dating, so I have her right now.

My best friend is going to come visit for my birthday in a few weeks, and I'm going to a friends wedding the week after that, so i will get some girl time in then..

Although.. I've never really been big on girlfriends.. I had many more guy friends growing up than girls.

  • I don't see them nearly as much as I'd like to. During the summers they're up in Maine (where most of my family is too) so if I'm not working on the weekends, we'll go up for a night and visit with everyone.

Once the summer's over, we usually try and get together about once a month for dinner.

I've gotten close to H's friend's wife though and I see her daily (they live next door to us) and I see SIL and H's cousin (who were both BMs) probably a couple times a month.

  • I have a group of girls I consider my "close" friends.  One of them is a girl I went to HS with - I see her once every 2-3 months in person, but I talk to her online on gchat all the time.

The others I went to undergrad + dental school with.  When we were in school together, we'd see each other pretty much every day at school and hang out after school/on the weekends 2 times a week on average.  It's been over 2 years since we've graduated and we all work full time, demanding jobs.  I don't really do much with anyone on weeknights just because there isn't time & I don't have the energy.  The farthest two live about 2 hours away, the other 2 live about 30 minutes away & in between myself and the first two.  We average seeing each other/getting together about once a month.  Sometimes more, sometimes less, sometimes not everyone is there, etc.  We also have our own google group, set up so that we all get the e-mails from one group e-mail address.  It is easy to keep in touch that way =]  I'd say I talk to them via e-mail, gchat, or FB several times a week.

  • My girlfriends are my cousins. I hang out with one, A,  a lot more than the other because our schedules are more a like, where my other cousin, K,  has a crazier schedule due to her schooling. I usually hang out with A every Friday. Her, her FI, H and I all go to their house and watch a movie or something.
