So I am new to posting here, usually post on the knot, but just need to vent about my closing. My FI and I were supposed to close on a home on June 29th--it is a short sale so we gave them 60 days to get everything done--come to find out that the current owners have two mortgages on the place and only one cleared in time for the 29th--no worries, we sign extension and decide that we can wait a couple more weeks--2nd mortgage clears (July 3). So we decide to close on the 17th of July. Find out this week that the seller won't leave until the 24th--because she has no where to go until she starts a new job in another state--yeah--I really don't care--I know that makes me sound mean, but seriously??? She was supposed to be out on the 29th originally. I am so freaking annoyed. Sadly, nothing I can do from a legal standpoint, so I am being annoying instead--my P & S said I can go in up to 3 times before the closing to measure stuff--appointment #1 is today.
SO FREAKING ANNOYING!! Okay, now I feel better.
Re: Closing Nightmare
So you want to be annoying because:
A). You bought a short sale, knowing full well things never go smoothly with a short sale, but you expected it to anyways.
C). Did it ever occur to you that she changed her plans when the closing date changed? Was she supposed to move away and then come back to sign the papers? And it is only 1 week from your agreed upon date, not the end of the world.
Seriously, you just want to go to the house to annoy her? This is no where near a nightmare, however, you seem like one. You should sit back and think about how much of this is probably not in the control of the homeowner, yet you are blaming her for everything.
And how, may I ask, is it costing you $3K to close on a different date??? That makes no sense.
Relax.
I wish the nest had a like button.
OP, you know what's a closing nightmare? Finding out two days before you're supposed to close that the owners have IRS tax liens on the property that weren't taken care of. And the bank may or may not agree to extend closing (still waiting to hear back on that one). Oh and the liens will take 6-8 weeks to be lifted, that's if the IRS decides to cooperate. Now have to explain all of this to your renters who already signed a lease on your old home and who's landlord is kicking them out. It's really a nightmare to have to tell other people that they're going to be homeless. Living out of boxes because you've already packed up half your house is also a nightmare, as is the utility companies shutting things off at you current home even though you told them to push back the transfer. Living in limbo because honestly, who knows if this is going to close or not, even after 10 months, is a nightmare.
At least your sale is likely to close. Give the owner a break. Going over here to annoy her is just asinine.
