Sometimes, I really hate being an adult.

I think we're refinancing the mortgage, again.

We did it a few months after we bought the house because rates had dropped so much. Now, rates have dropped a lot more - to the point that we can go down to a 20-year mortgage and only pay $200 more a month.

I know it's the smart move long-term. If we stay in the house, it'll be paid off before we're 50. If we move at some point, we'll have more equity. But, jeeze, I really don't want to do all that f'ing paperwork again.

  • I hear ya on this one. We did the same thing about a year after we had moved into our house (we've been here 3 years now) and we're thinking of refinancing again, especially if we can get an appraisal with our new kitchen to increase the value of our house. But it is so annoying.

  • Try selling a house, or multiple houses I should say! We are constantly buried in paperwork and things to sign, scan, and send back, plus numerous phone calls and emails. I'm so glad our TN house sold so soon after we moved out and without any snags. But getting rid of our FL houses has been nothing but trouble, over 8 months of sitting tied up in financing and bureaucratic red tape for each house. The deal on my house began 2 days before Christmas and fell through TWICE, now we're in the whole hurry up and wait process again and it's excruciating. T's house has been the same story. With my luck they'll overnight FedEx the closing papers the day I go into labor and can't return them right away.

  • We're throwing around this idea too. We can right now just pay closing costs and keep our payment the same but cut our terms down to 15 years.

  • I'm signing today for the house, and for our fourplex later this month. :P

  • We just did this a few months ago.  We got a rate of 3.5% and couldn't turn it down.  It is nice to have a lower payment, but the paperwork sucks.

  • We are thinking about doing this too... rates have dropped more than 2% since we bought the house.

I think we will end up waiting until David goes back to school and we have a lower income again though. Then we should be able to re-qualify for the USDA rural area refinance programs (we used a similar first time home buyer rural area loan to buy the house).

We closed on the NE house while I was in DC and I got to spend 1/2 the time I was there on the phone since our title company screwed stuff up, again!

    Man, I hate houses sometimes.

  • I dont own a home (you cant in LA unless you can afford over half a million) but can only IMAGINE the paperwork of refinancing. I totally understand the debate between doing something that makes financial sense and the hoops to have to go through it. Hang in there!
