Happy Friday (the 13th)!

What do you all have planned this weekend?

I called in sick to work today, because I wasn't feeling too great this morning (mainly pregnancy exhaustion and some nausea) although I feel fine now.  I think DH judged me for calling in, he's never called in sick to work!  I do about one time per year, for a "mental health" day.  I think the last time I used a sick day was last winter... Anyway, today I am relaxing and cleaning.

We're suppossed to go to a concert tonight, but it is an outdoor venue and it may rain, so I'm not super pumped, but I'll probably go because the tickets were expensive.  It is a whole bunch of 90s bands (Everclear, Gin Blossoms, Sugar Ray, and a few more).

Tomorrow we're looking at houses and then have a friend's party in the evening.
No plans for Sunday.

Re: Happy Friday (the 13th)!

  • I'm finally going to Maine for the weekend!!! H and I haven't been in Maine since our wedding, and most of my family and friends are up there so I've been dying to get up there. I'm going up tonight with my Mom and H, becasue he has to work tomorrow, will be coming up later tomorrow afternoon.

It's my brothers 30th bday on Sunday, but his gf is having a party tomorrow and I'm really excited...he has no idea about the party! I'm making the cupcakes for the party (I'll post pics on monday!)

What part of Maine do you go to?  BIL lives in Portland, Maine, and we go up there about once or twice a year.  DH's uncle also has a cottage further up in Maine (I forget the name of the lake though).  I'd never been to Maine before I started dating DH, and I honestly think it is the most beautiful state I've ever been to.  I love it!  We sometimes consider moving there, but I'm not sure we'd ever go through with it.  (We live in Atlanta, and it would be a huge adjustment, weather wise.)

  • H and I are going on a little weekend getaway.  We are getting off work at Noon and going to Omaha, NE.  I'm not really sure what we're actually going to do there.. but it's about 3/3.5 hours from where we live, and we wanted to get away for a weekend!  Has anyone been?  We're staying in the Old Market area... I think we're going to try and catch a baseball game and go to the zoo.  I'd love recommendations for things to do!

  • Tonight we're headed to the IL's house so that BIL can watch our pup Saturday night while we go to Boston for a friend's party. I'm excited to see a lot of our friends we haven't seen since the wedding!

My Mom grew up in Cape Elizabeth, ME! H & I love it up there! We went to Wells in Oct. last year and I think we're going again this year. It was such a relaxing mini-vacation! We stayed at the Sea Mist Resort and it was $99 for three nights! Can't beat that!!

The Zoo there is WONDERFUL!! we went on a family vacation there when i was about 15 or so and it was AMAZING.... you will definitely enjoy it... not sure if you are in to things like this, but there is (or used to be) a pretty cool airplane museum. my dad really enjoyed this. it's got ALOT of really neat old planes and things and lots about the history of the air force.... pretty cool... anyways, enjoy it!!

we don't have any plans this weekend... H missed a day of work, so his paycheck will be a little short, so nothing too extravagant will happen :) Sunday we have a birthday party in the evening to go to for one of the little boys of a girl i work with... her son and mine played soccer together and they're buddies, so it should be a lot of fun!

  • We are going camping with a bunch of friends (including 2 groomsmen and 1 bridesmaid), so I am stoked about getting out of the city and spending time with people we dont get to spend a lot of time with!

PS. That 90's concert sounds awesome....if you lived closer to me I would buy your tickets off you if it was raining! hahaha Hope it stays clear for you and that you can go!

  • H is gone until tomorrow sometime.... so tonight I think it's ordering Pizza and probably reading a book/watching a movie/working on thank you cards.

Tomorrow i'll get up and clean before it gets too hot, than at 1 i'll watch the football game on tv (CFL - canadian football). H should be home before supper... I hope. Probably won't do much tomorrow night.. then sunday hopefully we can get some work done around the house.. we've got trim to put up in our addition that we just built and then we can paint!

I grew up in a smallish town less than an hour from Omaha so I've been to the area plenty of times!  I love, love, love the Henry Doorly Zoo.  Right next to that is a minor league baseball stadium (where the College World Series is played) so if the team is at home you could catch a game.  As for actual downtown - there is so much to choose from!  Two places I always enjoy are Spaghetti Works and Upstream Brewing Company.  And a walk through Heartland of America Park or better yet a horse & carriage ride.  There are plenty of shops, museums and galleries to explore as well.  Aside from that that just walk the streets and duck into any little shops that look interesting - and be sure to find the ones underground.

Wow - I think I miss the Old Market!

Our weekend plans include me working tomorrow morning (bankers' hours - done by noon) and then relaxing until we have to get stepson's show calves ready for the county fair.  I imagine for me that will include making dinner and keeping them hydrated. :)  On Sunday we will be going to the parade that kicks off the fair.

    Happy Friday!

Tonight I 'll be grocery shopping. I need to get stuff to make a banana cream pie and an awesome chip dip for H's family's annual lakehouse tomorrow... which is where I will be tomorrow.  So excited!

Sunday will likely be a lazy day and just getting some things done around the apartment.

  • Tomorrow my mom and I are going to get mani/pedis,  and then we have a 'bridal luncheon' for a friend of mine..  I'm not sure what our plans are for tomorrow night!

Sunday, H's parents will be in town, so we'll probably do something with them.. and my parents, who are still living with us.....  .... ....

Should be a pretty quite weekend, with the exception of all the parents running around!

I live in Omaha!  I'm a grad student at Creighton :)  Omaha is overall pretty fun, the Old Market area was a good choice of venue to stay in.  I second the zoo, it was actually ranked the top zoo in the US this year!  They did a bunch of renovations this winter, and I haven't seen it since they changed it- but I've heard it's even more awesome.  Baseball games are fun, TD Ameritrade built a new stadium and it's really, really nice.  If you're willing to venture out west, Village Pointe shopping center (it's an outdoor mall) has a free concert every Saturday night, and the bands are usually pretty good.  It's all outdoors, so if the weather is nice it's pretty fun.  And you have to check out Jones Bros cupcakes at Aksarben- they have been on Cupcake Wars twice on Food Network- got 2nd the first time, and won the second time.  Totally worth it!  Favorite restaurants in Old Market are Upstream (they brew their own beers), and Roja (great Mexican food, margaritas, ...).  There is a lot to do in the Old Market area, so you should have a great weekend!  Any questions let me know!  Have fun :)

As far as my weekend plans, we don't have anything planned.  Next weekend my BIL is coming and we are going down to Kansas City for the Twins-Royals baseball game (we're from MN), so this weekend I will probably clean in preparation for his visit :)
