no space in bathroom

I'm moving and we won't have a cabinet under the sink in the bathroom like I'm used to. The house is bigger but not much more storage space. Where would you keep extras for the bathroom, razors, soap, shampoo, etc. I like buying extras when I have coupons or its on sale so I have like a year supply of razors and soap. The kitchen has a lot of cabinet space, a lot more than we are used to but the bedroom closets are both smaller. I was thinking of using the spare bedroom closet for linens and my husbands clothes and master bedroom closet for mine but we are trying hard to eliminate clutter. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, oh and the laundry is in the kitchen so no room for storage there.

Re: no space in bathroom

  • Have you thought of an over the toilet storage?  It looks like a bookcase that sits over the toilet and has multiple places to store things, and you don't have to make any damage in the wall.

  • If you have space for an over the toilet shelves (sorry I haven't been able to get links or photos to work for me yet on TN) http://www.target.com/p/fieldcrest-etagere-white/-/A-10939653

You could also get cabinets if you have the room and wall space. http://www.target.com/p/ellsworth-floor-cabinet-espresso/-/A-13841406

If you have room under the sink or don't need that space where a chair for the vanity would go you can get plastic bins with drawers. We have this since we have no there space. We have something similar to this- http://www.target.com/p/sterilite-small-white-modular-storage-drawer/-/A-13796190

  • You could also install one of those wide mirrored wall-mounted medicine cabinets that has shelves in it behind the mirrors.

My parents have this in one of their bathooms. It is wide enough that it has three mirrors and each mirror has five adjustable shelves behind it. There's is trimmed in wood. We had it growing up and it was awesome to store all of our bottles, tubes, and other bathroom supplies. The only downside is that it is narrow so anything larger than lotions and some hair care products won't fit. They come it all decorating styles.

Another thing is to remember even though you don't have much width and depth for storage, you do have height. Go up! You can get mini shelves that fit inside existing cabinets to essentially build more storage area. Something like this: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=12307632 You might be able to find it on Amazon or at Target for cheaper.

  • I store extra toiletries on the floor of our linen closet.  Purge your linens too, you don't need more than 1 spare set of sheets for each bed, and 1-2 beach towels per person, 2 bath towels pp, plus a set for guests.
  • All great ideas!  I'll just add a couple of ideas I've seen on Pinterest: (I would link to them, but my network at work blocks Pinterest)

If there is room, place a shelf above the door for extra towels or a basket to hold "spare" items.  For items you don't mind displaying but need storage for, use hooks to hang a basket or two from a towel rod.  We bought both over the toilet storage and a free standing cabinet that was quite shallow to add storage to our bathroom.

  • I never thought of a shelf for towels but I love that above the door. It's out of the way but where it needs to be. I also think we are going to get an over the toilet storage thing. I don't think we have another option. The sink it free standing and I don't want the bathroom to look cluttered since it's so small, but shelves are definitely a great idea.
  • I would use over the toliet storage. In my bathroom there is no under the sink stroage but there is a space between the counter and the wall. A little 3 shelf plastic contanier fit in there perfect and that is what I use.

  • I have a bathroom with no storage space and little counter space and so I just use two medium baskets and store my personal stuff in them and then I made a mini quilt to cover the baskets to bring privacy from guests. And then I found a little crate and store my hair products and lotions on the toilet and then I used smaller fishbowls one for eyeshadow and the other for lip glosses and lip sticks. It seems to work and it looks organized.
  • What about those little caddies to store all your shampoo and stuff?
  • If you're not worried about it being visible, how about one of those clear over the door vinyl shoe holders.  They don't have to be used just for shoes.  I know BB&B sells one with 24 pockets.  You could fill them with makeup, toiletries, hair products, etc.  They also sell ones that aren't clear so the contents won't be visible.

Check out this site.  It gives you an idea of what I'm talking about  http://penelopesoasis.com/2011/organize-home-shoe-holders.html

  • I got this unit from amazon and love it. The extra long doors keep stuff tucked away and out of sight. I looked for quite a while before finding it because most of the ones I saw had short doors and a shelf above and below the doors.
