Teaching interview

I had a job interview for a kindergarten teaching position last week. The interview was with the principal and the other kindergarten teacher. We talked and asked questions back and forth for about 40 minutes. Then the principal had the other kindergarten teacher show me around the school. When I met back up with the principal, she said she still had a few more people to interview.

For those of you that have been on teaching interviews, do you think this is a good sign?

Re: Teaching interview

  • it sounds like a standard interview. I'm not sure how we're supposed to know anything else? It's good that she didn't throw you out on your ass, I guess :)
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • If the principal had the other teacher show you around the school, I think that was a good sign- at our school, only the teachers the principal was strongly considering were shown around.  Just my experience at one school, though- either way, good luck!
  • I think it is a good sign. I agree that my principal only shows around people that are contenders. Did they give you an idea of a timeline? My last student teacher has been interviewing and he usually has two interviews and then a sample lesson if he's in contention.

  • She said that she still had a few more people to interview next week but should be making a decision after that.

I've never been given a tour of the school so I wouldn't say that it was a standard interview. At least not where I'm from. I've also read a lot of people saying that they've had to teach a sample lesson. I haven't heard of anybody in the districts around me having to do that, but I guess I should prepare for that just in case! Thanks for the helpful advice!

  • I work at a school, and we only tour potential employees tours after their interviews! I hope good things come your way!!
  • At our school we only show candidates around that we are seriously interested in. I would say that you are one of their top choices.

    Good luck!
