Local Breweries that offer tastings?

Does anyone have any recommendations of any breweries in MD (or possibly VA if it's not that far) that offer regular tastings on the weekends? I'm looking for some ideas for DH's birthday this year. TIA!

Re: Local Breweries that offer tastings?

  • Heavy Seas does, but not the new restaurant in the city, the regular ale house and I'm not sure where that is.

Troegs in Hershey PA is nice but the opposite direction you are looking for.

    I think there's a place in Frederick

  • Isn't flying dog in Frederick or is it dogfish head?

  • Dogfish Head is in Delaware, not sure how long of a drive it is.

Yuengling is in PA, again not sure of the distance.

I'm pretty sure it's in Halethorpe. A friend of mine has helped run tours there for years!

  • Yeah, Heavy Seas in Halethorpe does tours - I believe every Saturday. I think it is $5, and they give you tons of samples.  Flying Dog in Frederick also does tours, but I haven't been there for years so I don't remember the details.  Troegs is great, but more of a drive since they are in Hershey.

  • I just saw something on FB about a wine and beer festival at Blobs park. It was on the Annapolis page. Just a thought.

  • My husband is the master of this. Most of the places that offer tastings are on the Eastern Shore or in Delaware. Dogfish Head is in Milton, Delaware, and my husband just mentioned this weekend that the waiting list is very, very long to do a tour there.

We were at the beach this weekend and visited Burley Oak in Berlin, and loved it. Our favorite is Evolution, which is in Salisbury.

There's a brewery and winery next door to each other in St. Michaels that both offer tastings. Makes for a nice little day trip.

Fordham and Old Dominion (Rams Head) are both brewed in Dover, Delaware, and you can do a tour/tastings.

We went there a few years ago for my birthday and loved it. I'd love to find something similar where there are nice restaurant options and other things to do nearby.

  • We do brewery tours with a local bar that a friend manages and the best one, hands down, is Flying Dog. Heavy Seas is really small and you don't get much of a selection. Dogfish Head takes forever and is a pretty far drive. Flying Dog has live music some days, an outdoor patio area, and tons of beers to sample.
  • It's smaller than the others mentioned but Brewer's Art in the city will do a tour and a tasting (I think you get like 5 beers) if you have a certain number of people - I think maybe 10 or 15? So it's not something you could just do on your own with your H but if you got a group together you could. The tour is pretty interesting and their beer is, of course, awesome, haha. It's around 3 oclock or so on Saturdays (maybe 2ish?) and then you can hang out in the bar before it's open to the public.
