Where is a good place to stop btw here and Asheville NC?
We have a wedding to go to in October, but it's a 7.5 hour drive from here to the venue, so I was wondering if there is anywhere cool to stop along the way and make an extra day of it on the way down, and possibly on the way back so the kids don't have to sit in the car that long. I haven't traveled much, so I have no idea what is in between that we could do with kids. Any suggestions?

Hmmm..well, I know from Pitt to the WVA border will be about 5-5.5 hrs, so you'd probab'y look for something in W Va., then?
This is a little West off 19 on 79, but maybe this is worth the stop (if you're looking to stay overnight)? http://www.camdenpark.com/
Here is the MapQuest of the suggested route from Pgh to Asheville: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Asheville&1s=NC&2c=Pittsburgh&2s=PA
If you're looking for only a 1-2 hr stop, then you're best bet would be a State Park, I would figure!
And, speaking from someone who has to drive 12+ hrs to see immediate family and 6 hrs to see relatives, 7.5 hrs is not too bad on kids and usually a stop at a BK or McDs with a play area is good enough (espec. if you have a DVD player in the car!). Happy travels!

I found this on pinterest. You type in your starting point and your ending point and it shows you whats to see and do along the way.
HAHAHA I should have figured there was "an app for that"! When I was surfing the Web for ideas I thought, "that would be great if there was a website that pointed out attractions along the way..."

I'm not sure how to get to Asheville, but Beckley, WV is on the way to Charlotte, etc. In Beckley is the New River Gorge Bridge. It's a really neat suspension bridge that is known for something, but I can't remember. It would be a good stopping point as there is a rest area, some museumy kinds of things regarding the bridge, and then you can walk down a whole bunch of stairs for a view of the bridge, gorge, and daring white water rafters below. You could probably blow an hour or 2 there, easily, especially since small ones will take a while to walk up and down.
There are a bunch of hotels in the Beckley area, too, if you were interested in staying over night.
Me too - especially if I could live in Biltmore Estate!
