Really confused about myfitnesspal.com
I put in 1650 for my daily calories then when I workout it says I have extra calories to use . I put in that I want to lose 1 lb a week. So am I supposed to eat the extra calories or not to lose weight?

In order to lose weight you have to expend 3500 calories a week, whether it's by eating less or working out more. When you workout, you are creating a caloric deficit. If you eat the calories you lost working out, you won't gain or lose weight. However, if you don't eat the calories, and at the end of the week your caloric deficit equals 3500, you have lost a pound

Uh oh. I've been doing this wrong then. DARN IT! So 3500 calorie deficit is equivalent to 500 calories per day. What are you using as your goal calories for this deficit because I'm pretty sure that my body would revolt on 500 calories less than my current goal as the new goal?

If you exercise, you can eat more for that day. You want your net calories to be at or under your goal to lose weight. So if you want to cut 500 calories a day, you can do that my simply cutting it from your diet or exercising, or a combination of both.

But, yes... You want your NET calories for the day to come to ZERO. That includes any additional calories you may earn by working out. Eating your way to NET OF ZERO will get you to a one pound loss per week.
If your net caloric intake for the day is zero, it would mean that you burned off in exercise everything you ate that day. Your net should be whatever your goal is for weight loss which isc1200-1800 calories for most people.
Wow... I got so lost in trying to convey that you can eat all the calories you earned by working out bringing that to a zero that I totally lost my focus. Good catch. Thanks!!
I find SparkPeople.com to be a LOT more user-friendly and easier to follow than either of those other sites. I would recommend you sign up with them. It takes care of all of the net calories, etc. for you and simply tells you what you should strive for for the week.
