New in town!
Hi! My husband just received a recent promotion and we are looking into areas to relocate! We are going back and forth between Doylestown and Phoenizville, we currently live in Pittsburgh and love the idea of moving to a town with a strong community feel - ability to walk to local restaurants, pubs, shopping,etc. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks for your help!!!!

Where will you and your husband be working? Doylestown and Phoenixville are very different geographically (as I'm sure you can see), and I am curious about your commute. Any kids?
We live in Pville and love it for all the reasons you mentioned above.
welcome! me and my husband live in west chester, right near the university.. we love it here. downtown is full of nice shops and good food. the areas quiet and the school district is top notch. people are lining up to get into it. every weekend theres an amish farmers market in town where we buy fresh produce and homemade goods. phillys only 25 mins away, which is nice. we were thinking of moving to phoenixville or possibly back to bucks county (where were originally from) but we really like it here and decided to look at houses in this area instead. i don't know what type of family situation your in, but me and my husband are selling our 1 bedroom townhouse.. it's perfect for a young couple just starting out.

You will find this in Phoenixville. I've been here for nine years and have no plans to leave. We just moved, but only about 7 blocks away from our first house. We have enjoyed watching the downtown evolve since our first visit in late 2002. The downtown is more focused on Arts & Entertainment (Summer fun Fridays, First Fridays year-round, outdoor festivals like the Firebird and BLOBfest this weekend) and tons of restaurants. You won't find much in the way of shopping other than a handful of small gift shops (well, except for two places--Best Friends Boutique and LuLu's). The year-round Farmer's Market is awesome and attracts some excellent farms and foodstuffs. You will find a large variety of architectural styles in town and a nice mix of housing stock--single homes, twins, condos--at all price levels.
My husband grew up in Bucks County and spent time in Doylestown--it's the county seat, so the place is packed during the day with court staff, lawyers, etc., but it does have a tendency to "pull in the sidewalks" after 5, but the homes are BEAUTIFUL and the neighborhoods are very leafy and shaded. Also, you are more likely to find shopping opportunities (known chains like Talbots and the Gap, along with smaller shops) in and around downtown Doylestown.
Of course, as the previous posters have said, where you are working will have a definite impact where you chose to live. Good luck!

When people don't know you, this tends to rub folks the wrong way. You might not like it, but that's the way it is. All snarkiness aside, perhaps try an intro post so people don't assume you're a vendor or the like.
Thanks for all your help. He will be working around KOP - we were told they are almost finish extension fro doylestown so it should make the commute about 30 mins or so. My friend also told me about the mainline but Im not sure about specific areas. Any other suggestions? Thanks
Doylestown to KoP is NOT going to be 30 minutes at rush hour. Plan for more like an hour.
There are some really great towns along the Main Line that have a great community (Ardmore is the first one that comes to mind) but be aware that some can be more pricey than the others.
Check out these places, too: Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Wayne, Rosemont, Paoli, Malvern, Devon. All are commutable to KoP via back roads, with Ardmore being the most east and Malvern being the most west.
The mainline is beautiful with great schools and accessible to KOP, but the homes are also a lot more expensive.
Ardmore is the most affordable town on the ML and has a great little downtown with shopping and restaurants.
I live in Havertown, which is right next to Ardmore. I love everything about Havertown - good schools, amazing neighbors, walkable (not as great of a downtown area as Ardmore, but still walkable to lots of things). The home prices are lower than on the ML.
