H and I got a mass text about writing our names on the rsvp last night. We were both completely confused and eventually it dawned on me this was about a wedding invite. So we went out and checked our mail and had a wedding invite. Of course we quickly looked at the rsvp card to see what the text was about. Turns out they forgot a space for people to write in their names.
The question is this, What is the proper length of time to ask a guest to rsvp by? What is pushing the limits and asking your guests to commit to far in advance?

Re: rsvp question
We did ours for about 4 weeks before hand I believe. We had to give the final numbers to the caterer about 2 weeks before hand.
I'm in a friend's wedding this September, and she sent out her invitations back in late May I believe and wanted RSVP's back this past weekend. I thought that was super early, but that's just my opinion.
