Hi gals,
Any suggestions for how to sell my engagement ring and get the most for it? I decided long ago to not do anything to it until either he or I got engaged or remarried and since he is remarried and I am happily on my way to hopeful engagement... I want to sell it. I want to say he originally spent about 4k on it... I think it has a half or three quarter center round stone. I never did get a wedding band (I agreed to a nicer honeymoon instead of a wedding ring) with it so just have the e-ring. I loved loved loved the ring but now the image of it leaves me feeling emotionless and sick.
It is this ring:

I agree with Lena about the paperwork on it. You'll be better off if you have the certificate for it.
Perhaps there is also a local jewelry store that would either purchase it from you or agree to a consignment type of sale for you. If it came down to it, maybe you could sell the diamonds apart from the setting? I'm not really sure how that would work.
I agree with this. Ebay would make me too nervous. I'd rather work with a real person.

I thought about ebay and hesitated for that same reason. Dealing with this amount, it makes me feel nervous and unprepared to deal with that. I suppose I ought to find a local jeweler and start there. I think I might have paperwork but not sure. The ex literally threw all of my paperwork into a box, dumping it out of file folders and everything... so it is a mess I have never wanted to go through but if I do have it, it might be in there.... It was bought from Robbins Bros so it was all legit and tracked and all... any other ideas are welcome.
What do you girls think I should ask for it?
You could always take it somewhere for an appraisal. I'm pretty sure the rule of thumb (at least around here) is that they should appraise for roughly double what they'll retail for. Take out a cut since they'd need to make a profit on it, and go from there.

This. The jeweler should be able to have the info, and could possibly even give you some direction as far as where it would be best to sell.
I quickly looked through responses - so forgive me if someone already mentioned this. My best friend recently got divorced and she had luck on exboyfriendjewelry.com - she got $2k for her at least $10k ring - but she just wanted to get rid of it and didn't really care what she got for it.
It's also a cool place to browse for some things to take off other people's backs and get new goodies - not just jewelry.
