Anyone stay at the military hotel on Oahu?

DH, DD and I just got back from a week and a half in So. Cal visiting family. These "vacations" are not vacations when your always going to visit people. So we're toying with the idea of heading to hawaii in October.

I'm just interested to see if anyone has stayed at any of the military hotels on Oahu? DH is Coast Guard. Looks like pretty great prices but of course recs are great too!

TIA!

Re: Anyone stay at the military hotel on Oahu?

  • I didn't stay there (I was at the Hilton Hawaii Village), but I met friends.  It looked nice and the location is pretty central (relatively close to the Hilton actually).  Friends were happy and had no complaints, so if it's a good deal, I'd say go for it!

  • I've stayed at the Hale Koa (we're USCG too) and it's pretty great for tourists. Their prices are tiered based on your H's rank. It's right on Waikiki, so you can walk to the beach and sightsee up and down Kalakaua Ave and Ala Wai Blvd. One of my favorite things to do is get a latte and a mini fruit tart at the cafe inside the Moana Surfrider hotel (old plantation-style hotel with a big banyan tree right in the center of it). There's also Duke's Canoe Club restaurant near this hotel as well, and they have amazing food. You can walk right up to it from the beach, just wash the sand off your feet and head right in.

I do recommend checking out other stuff beyond Waikiki, though, since it can get rather crowded on the strip. Definitely head up to Sunset beach, Haleiwa town, Waimea bay, Haunama bay, Sandy beach, and Lanikai beach.

We stayed at the Hale Koa a few years ago.  No complaints, the grounds were beautiful.  The rooms were clean, no frills or anything fancy.  It was within walking distance to lots of stuff from what I remember.
  • Yep many times :) we go to Hawaii all the time and usually stay 2-3 days at hale koa to get our Waikiki fix and then move to another part of the island. Check all the hotels gov rates as sometimes they are batter rates. The ohana chain of hotels is one that comes to mind
