Nannys/Babysitter

Anyone want to recomend one?  I only need regular child care 2 days a week. But it'd be nice to be have someone to watch the boys so I can run erronds once in awhile and not have to drag the boys around. I'm in Forest Hills and will be attending classes at CCAC in Monroeville Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I had an interview schedualed this morning with some I thought was really promising and she no showed on me.  No call, no email.

And could someone explain the difference between a Nanny and a Babysitter to me, except the fact that Nanny's ask for more money?  It really confuses me.

Re: Nannys/Babysitter

  • No recommendations since i'm in NJ. We have a nanny who's wonderful....what makes her a nanny from my perspective is that she's a former preschool teacher so she does lessons/projects every day. She was also really great at getting my kids on a daytime schedule like they'd be at a daycare....this was something I never accomplished only being around 2 full days/week. For me a babysitter is someone just there to watch your kids, feed them and make sure no one ends up in the emergency rom, ha. It's a loose term and people tend to call themselves a nanny to get a higher hourly rate but you should think about their qualifications and ask what value they'll provide over a typical sitter to justify the cost.

That makes sense then.  Its just that I guess my "babysitters" while I was growing up did what a nanny does under this explination so I didn't understand the difference.  But I guess it makes more sense to consider a babysitter as the next door neighbors 16 year old or the college student who watches your kids when you and your hubby go out to dinner saturday night....that type of thing.

  • I think its very subjective but I consider a nanny to be a full time position in that they come every day or X amount of days, and can/are expected to do everything from  driving your kids places, getting them up in the morning, doing school work, feeding them etc..  A babysitter is more of a person I would call on different occasions and would mostly just have them watch the kids, put them to bed & feed them whatever I make.

That being said we have a girl that comes 3 days a week now but I consider her a summer babysitter not a nanny.
