DH and I are planning a 4 or 5 day trip the second week of October but don't know where to go. DH really wants to go to Maine but I can't tell if that's a good time of year. I keep reading about stuff shutting down after Columbus Day.
Other possibilities include:
Savannah/Charleston
Vermont
Nashville
Outerbanks
Any other ideas or suggestions? We don't get to go on vacation often so I want to make it a good one!
Re: Where to go in October?
My husband REALLY wants to go to Nashville. We're taking our toddler to DisneyWorld in February so it'll have to wait, but I'm pretty sure that's his #1 must-visit destination in the States.
I was thinking we could go for his 30th birthday in April as a long weekend, but I've heard so many great things about the city. If you're into music, it's one of the best places to go for local undiscovered and amazing talent.
We went to Vermont for our honeymoon- which was in October! It was gorgeous, perfect weather, and we LOVED it. We will be going back for our 5th anniversay.
Savannah/CHarleston would be fun, I've never been to Nashville. I've been to the outer banks, but they kinda shut down after the summer, too.
I vote Vermont!!
The foliage in Vermont will be beautiful then - especially if you go in early October. There are plenty of cute little towns to explore in 4-5 days.
Savannah and Charleston would also be great because it's slightly cooler then. That would be a good amount of time to do both cities.
I thought Nashville was just okay in terms of tourist attractions. Definitely wasn't even to pique my interest for 4-5 days but you could tack on some time in Memphis, Gatlinburg or somewhere else.
A few years back we did Savannah and Charleston for a few days in October and it was lovely! Both cities are close to beaches, so you can always add in a beachy day if the weather is nice.
We usually take a 4-5 road trip day vacation around the same time and here are the places were considering for this year:
- New Orleans
-Ashville, NC
- Maine
- St. Augustine, FL
