Sailing on Lake Superior

Has anyone sailed through North House Folk School in Grand Marais or Amicus out of Knife River MN? Another company?

Re: Sailing on Lake Superior

  • I haven't - but I just wanted to say that I'm very jealous!

DH and I were going to take a sailboat tour of the Apostle Islands on our honeymoon but it ended up snowing and we had to cancel.  (early October wedding - what can ya say?  MN weather is unpredictable!)  It is still on our "to-do" list though!

  • That would have been amazing witty! Oh my gosh. You should go for an anniversary. What company were you going to use? Or do you know how to sail on your own? If you say you do, I'm going to be soooo jealous. I have a lot of things on my bucket list but learning to sail is number 1.

  • I want to say it was Sunsetter tours or something like that.  It was out of the Bayfield marina.  I do actually know how to sail but small boats (Hobie-Cat size) only -  not the big rigs they've got for Superior or elsewhere.  It is a fun hobby!  I know that the Red Cross used to give sailing lessons on some of the local lakes but I'm not sure if they still provide that service.  Might be worth a check!
  • Really nest? up to your same old shenanigans...  Typed up a post and went to post and the error message came up and lost it.  Didn't even realize people were still posting on here.  I thought everyone had moved over to proboards!

Let us know who you end up sailing through.  DH and a friend took sailing lessons this month and got certified for 25ft (?) or smaller sailboats during the daylight (it was a groupon deal).  The plan is for them to man the boat while the wives enjoy the ride :-)  We haven't gotten a chance to go out yet though, they just got certified last week.  They did their class through a yacht club on Lake Minnetonka.
