We are leaving for a 12 hr road trip Saturday around 6. Just looking for any pointers or wisdom from other moms. Lol. Should we skip a nap that day so he'll sleep in the car? Or will that backfire? Also anything that's a must for beach/ pool? Thanks ladies!
Re: Road Trip
have you skipped naps before?
i can usually push my kids - if there's action, Sam stays awake and she'll sleep when we let her.
have fun!
Are you headed to myrtle beach by any chance? I kind of remember you saying you might go there. If so, we'll be down there together.
As far as the ride goes, bring snacks, plan on making frequent stops to let him run around a bit, and try buying some new toys, books, etc and give them to him when he starts to get fussy. K is a lot youger than A but we've done several long road trips with her. I've noticed though that her max is about 8 hours so we are breaking up the trip to myrtle beach and staying in VA Friday night.
Thanks girls. Yes we're headed to Myrtle! he isn't napping at daycare regularly so skipping a nap may not be an issue. Although he may pass out the second we get in the car. Lol. Maybe I'll let him take a 2 hr nap and hopefully he'll pass out by 9-10.
Weve never done a long road trip with him before so I'm a bit nervous. Last summer I had to drop someone off in NYC and had him with me. We hit some traffic and he cried the whole way home- not fun
I'll keep my eyes open for you guys! It's funny, we've run into people we know from home many times that we've been down there.
Going though the night is much better with a LO, I don't think you'll have too much trouble. I wish we could do it but the times we have neither one of us felt very alert and I was too paranoid to sleep while DH was driving...so we resorted to the slow route of many stops and staying overnight. Maybe get one of those travel DVD players that attaches to the seat. Then he can watch a movie and hopefully pass out after.
