Well wishes please!! (Vent - kind of long)

So, I hope it's nothing, but with DH at work, it's hard to wonder!  I'm about over this drought!  We're on a well (UGH!!!).  Well, I came home from work this afternoon, and went to wash a bowl out.  The water pressure at the kitchen sink wasn't very good.  I didn't think anything about it.  I finished loading the dishwasher, and started it.  It came on okay.  I went around and gathered all the dirty clothes to start a load of laundry before I went to the gym.  Turned the washer on, and nothing.  No water whatsoever.  I then realized that the dishwasher was running, but there was no water in it.  It was quieter than normal.  I went and tried the bath tub and kitchen sink, and nothing.

I'm thinking...F3CK!  No water.  Not again!  Earlier this year, we had no water, and DH and the neigher dug a little, and did something with a connection underground and also replaced the pump.

Anyways, I went ahead and went to the gym and did a teeny tiny workout (11 minutes on the stairmaster).  I came home and first thing I did was try the kitchen sink.  It came on full pressure.  So, I was relieved!  I started the dishwasher back-up and it was running.  After awhile, I went to start the washer.  It came on normal as well.  While it was filling up, water pressure lessened and it started spitting water some.  It eventually did fill up and do my load of laundry.  And my dishes did get cleaned.

I went to take a shower...turned the water on, and it was spitting at me.  Then it started spitting water with it looked like dirt mixed in.  ARGH!!!  No shower for me at home.  I went back to the gym to do another small workout (20 minutes on the stairmaster) and to take a shower there.

I'm really hoping it's nothing major!!  But all I can wonder is about this stinking well.  I don't know anything about our well (i.e. how deep it is, etc).  I want to be on city water and pay a water bill!!

Keep your fingers crossed it's nothing major!!!

  • Yikes!  DH's family's place on the lake is on a well.  Do you have a pump?  Sometimes when the water pressure is low or disappears altogether, they need to restart the pump there.

We take a lot of precautions to make sure the well doesn't dry out (shut the water off in the shower while shaving, not running water constantly while doing dishes).  I can't imagine having a dishwasher AND a washer on a well!  We don't have those luxuries at the lake!

  • We do have a pump.  We replaced it earlier this year, but I'm hoping it's something with that!  Or I'm hoping I'm worrying about nothing! :-)

  • ARGH!!!  DH just called me, and he said what I explained to him sounds like the well might be running dry.  Ugh!!!  This sucks!

  • Oh no...that's horrible.  I definitely have my fingers crossed for you.  It sounds to me like your well is low too.  Which, if I understand it correctly doesn't mean you are out of water, but it does mean you need to conserve water.  Ex.-laundry at the laundry mat, shower at gym when possible, don't use water outside like watering flowers or washing car.
Because you had that recovery, I would say your well is recovering, but much slower than normal so you will not have the amount of water you are used to having.
    Good luck..praying for rain!

Oh no!!  Did you get rain last night?  Hopefully we will be getting more today too.. there's a chance!   Otherwise, I think you may have to drill a new well. Sad  My husbands a plumber, let me know if you have any questions!

  • We did get some rain last night!  I don't know how much.  But when DH got home, I asked him if it was actually raining or just thundering.

I'll be taking a shower at the gym now and doing laundry at my parents to conserve what little water there may be left in there until DH figures something out.  It was too late when he got home last night to do anything, so I'm guessing he'll be up soon to look at it.

  • Praying you get more rain and the problem is the pump being funny.
  • I talked to DH when he got up this morning.  He said we had water this morning at the regular pressure.  We are assuming that the well is probably low, and it's taking longer to fill the water tank up.  I am still planning on taking a shower at the gym when I'm done workint out instead of taking it when I get home, and will get laundry over to my mom's to do.  We've gotten some rain today, but I don't know how much.  We'll see how the water is doing when I get home!

He thinks he jinxed us!  He told me he was just thinking about the well and the water level yesterday before I sent him all the text messages!
