BBC: The Paris Wife Discussion

Hey guys!  I took some notes while I read and wrote down specific questions for the discussion, then left that at home, lol.  So I'll just start this generic thread here and post the rest after work.

So, what were your overall thoughts on TPW?

Re: BBC: The Paris Wife Discussion

  • Overall, I didn't really like it.  I think I only gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.  It had nothing to do with the author or her writing style, etc.  I just didn't like the subject matter.  I also now have no desire to read anything Ernest Hemingway ever wrote, lol.

  • I was also not a fan of this book.  I thought I was going to like it more.  It took me a long time to finish it once I started. It just.. fell flat for me would be the best way to put it.
  • I didn't like it either.  In fact I probably wouldn't have even finished it had it not been for BBC.  I thought the author wrote fine, I, like Sessions, just really did not care for the subject matter.  I felt like though it was perhaps a decent story, there was a lot of time spent on mundane details of their lives.  I also was very saddened by how badly he treated her.  I definitely would not recommend this one.

I didn't like it. I didn't think the author was a bad writer or anything, I think I just have to agree with PPs that it was the subject matter. It was really upsetting and maybe it's just my hormones out of whack and all but I was genuinely very upset by it. I think that maybe if I were a HUGE Hemingway fan and wanted to get a feeling for what it might have been like living with a "tortured genius" I might have enjoyed it.... :P

  • I found it at the library this weekend and just started it. I'm only 40 pages in because I've had to reread those pages so many times. The book just doesn't capture my attention thus far. I think based on everyone's views here, I'm just going to put it down.

I think that would be wise.
