Confession

For the past few nights I've been having dreams that we get pregnant next month. I know I tend to obsess over things and I am trying so hard to not obsess over TTC and these dreams are not helping!

I told DH the other night that sometimes I wish I didn't know as much as I did about TTC.... ignorance is bliss as they say.

Any confessions you want to get off your chest?

Re: Confession

  • I might as well confess.  Even though DH and I weren't trying in the fact that I wasn't temping and such, I did have an app on my phone to track my periods and it told me when I "should be" fertile.  Granted it was just a guesstimate but yeah I made sure we had some extra fun that week.  So maybe I was trying just a little.  :)

Second confession, I really really want to be a stay at home mom.  Honestly we can do it, we live off of DH's check currently except for the car insurance which comes out of my check.  I think we can still make it work on DH's salary until it's time to pay back my student loans.  Then I would need some kind of income to help.  Is it bad of me to want to drop down to one class a semester just to put off paying my student loans so I can stay at home?  It would put that off for a few more years.  My other option is trying to find something in the evenings or work from home so we still wouldn't have to pay for daycare.

  • I dont think its bad of you at all Michelle. Maybe you can be a stay at home mom for the first few months and then pick up a part time job a few days a week while your husband can be at home. That way you'll have money to pay your student loan bills and also get to have some adult time.

Also think about how much child care is going to cost, if you work full time how much of your paycheck would go to child care? I am kinda secretly hoping that child care will consume half of my paycheck so I can talk DH into letting me work part time in the eveings when he is at home so we wouldnt have to pay child care.

  • That's actually what I was just working out on paper.  I looked up the average cost of childcare for an infant in Oklahoma, my average cost of gas, I'd need a new car as my current car is not car seat friendly.  If I stay home I can use DH's truck that is completely paid off.  It's an extended cab.  I can't use that for work because I work 40 minutes away and gas would eat me alive.  Even with a newer car/car payment, I'd end up barely breaking even after daycare, gas, student loans, ect. if I stay where I am.

If I stay home and find something close by in the evenings or work from home, even just part time, all those costs are gone except my student loans.  So I think that's what I'm going to try for.  In January I'll start looking for openings online and around home, just to get a feel for what's available.  I'd like to be able to not work at all for the first 6 months.  Save as much as we can now, to make that possible.  And once I sell my current vehicle as I wouldn't need it staying at home - that will be all profit.  So that would help. I calculated that even if I found something at $8 an hour for 15 hours a week, I'd bring in enough for my student loans plus a little extra for maybe savings.

I'm not sure why, but this was suddenly very much on my mind this morning.  It's always been my dream to be a stay at home mom and with everything so expensive, I started wondering if it was possible.

  • I hear ya! I've already been thinking of ways to be able to stay at home but its just not in the cards. The only way it could happen is if for some reason we didnt get the house and could use what we saved up to pay off all of my bills. But I kinda really want the house lol.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be able to make it work and you can stay home with your baby!

Edit: I just looked up average day care costs in California and holy smokes! For an infant at a day care center its about 1k a month. For an infant at a home daycare its about 600 a month... yikes!

  • Wow, those prices are crazy.  I can understand why my SIL stays home.  In Oklahoma they aren't quite that crazy.  It's between 450-625 a month.  But that's still a good chunk of my paycheck.  Sadly I make less than half what DH makes.

  • Confession: The thought that I could be pregnant is still a huge weighton my mind. I try really hard to not think about it because I will probably make AF late due to stress. Also still trying to hold out takinga test untill tomorrow at least. I feel like I am going crazy.
