So as we are getting close to starting the registry for the baby and I need some guidance. I feel so overwhelmed with what brand/ type to register for, Which bottles to choose, What car seats are the best, What strollers are the easiest to use. I have been reading reviews on babies r us website but I still feel like I am so over my head as I have no experience with this stuff. What did you guys do?
TIA!
Re: whats the best products?
I found the book Baby Bargains very helpful. The latest edition is about a year old and libraries have it. Also, I know BRU keeps a copy at the registry desk.
For car seats, I went with the Graco Snug ride 35 and was very happy with it. The snap and go was a must have.
We are now using the Britax Advocate and so far, it's great.
We have the City Mini Jogger, and I hate to say it, but I really haven't used it much yet. I was hoping to take advantage of the nice weather, but weekdays I"m at work and wknds are mostly spent home.
I really love wonder bumpers for the brib- they cover each slat so you don't have the safety issues of regular bumbers or the cumbersome breathable bumpers.
I can't rave enough about the snugabunny swing (Fisher Price).
Have you though about where the baby will sleep as a newborn? With 20/20 hindight, I would have set up an arms reach cosleeper in the guest room.
If you plan to BF and pump, it's helpful to have bottles that are compatible with the connectors of your pump.
Halo sleepsacks were very helpful in the beginning for us
this!! I literally checked every single item on my registry against this book. Plus I used http://www.lucieslist.com/ and http://alphamom.com/pregnancy/our-ultimate-baby-registry-checklist/ to double check things.
Babies r us registry checklist and other registry checklists from a big box store include SO many things that are unnecessary according to every mom I've spoken with.
For a infant stroller every mom I've spoken with recommends a snap n go (I have the chicco keyfit caddy) and an infant seat (chicco keyfit 30) until you switch to a bigger stroller. Every single time I've been baby shopping, I've seen countless women with this combo (with cute little ones added lol) and asked them about it. They all say it's so easy and lightweight. We are registered for the britax b-agile for when she outgrows the infant seat. It was either that or the city mini gt, but my husband is tall and kept hitting the bar on the bottom on the city mini. Both come highly recommended.
Otherwise if you scroll back I think I have most of my registry items in a post where people chimed in and advised me to things I forgot. You could use that as a starting point since lord knows I've been researching baby items for 2 years now- not that I'm an expert- but the women I talk to and the books I read are IMO lol.
ITA with everything mrsredmoose has to say I use all of the above daily. The swing was and is a lifesaver for sure!
Ditto all of the above and defiantly get your hands on the baby bargains book. Make sure it's the latest edition. They print a new updated edition every few years.
I personally try not to pay too much attention to the reviews on the babies r us website. Of course I usually read them, but I don't let it sway my opinion too much. I've noticed a lot of people writing those reviews are dumbasssssssses.
Love the Chicco key fit!! I have the one that only goes up to 22 pounds, which worked fine. She outgrew it in height long before weight. For a convertible seat we use the Britax Blvd (cant go wrong with any Britax) and a Sunshine kids Radian (this one is really nice too).
I have a chicco travel system, but I really wish I had the city mini stroller (no point in buying it now since I already own three strollers and will eventually need a double). It looks so awesome and is so easy to fold/lightweight that if it were me I'd skip the snap and go and just get the Chicco attachment for the city mini. As far as the travel system goes, I dont mind it. I always used this stroller and found that it wasnt too difficult. I never had a snap and go so I can't comment on that, and we really didn't use bottles so I'm not sure there either. But i think for bottles you might want to maybe register for a sample pack of a few brands bc your baby may be picky about the type. Or if you end up with a bunch of one type at least keep them packaged until you know they work for you.
I agree about baby bargains- I found it quite helpful
We were lucky to get a ton of stuff from my SIL but to be honest, I sent a "survey" to my mom friends to ask their opinions on stuff....including number of each.
I think when it comes to bottles, that will all be personal preference. Everyone likes the bottle they use for a different reason
