I don't want to post this on FB but I need to vent.
Hubby just found out that we're being stationed in Hawaii, as long as he graduates this training. He's super excited. I am super not excited.
That means I can't take my car. I probably won't have a job. We're going to be stuck in temporary housing for several months probably (they put you in a teeny tiny little shack until a house opens up....our friends were stuck like this for 7 months).
I also will have to wait stateside by myself for a couple months until the pets can go, they have to be in quarantine because of Hawaii being rabies free.

Re: UGH!
While I know that you're bummed, I have heard some great things from people that have been stationed in Hawaii. Most of them have come out loving it. I hope that you'll have this experience once you get there.
It sounds like we need to make a GTG happen while you are here on your own. Best wishes that everything goes as smooth as possible!
I have some friends that live in Hawaii and they love it! I know the stuff you have to go through to get there seems like a PITA, but once that's done I bet you'll start liking it better.
Also, can you sell your car here and get a new one over there? I guess you'd probably lose out on a little money, but you'd still be mobile!
my read shelf:
Kayla,
That is a bummer!! How long will he be stationed there? While there hopefully you can see a lot of Hawaii, Oahu and the other islands. Inter island flights used not to be too expensive.
My friend was in the air force and stationed on Oahu for three years. Her DH and her also had the pet issue and the car issue. Are you taking DH's car? My friend and her DH were able to ship one car out there. It was stressful getting everything out there but was better after that. It will be hard to be so far away. You will just have to take advantage of the beach and have lots of beach time. The beaches are beautiful there.
Hang in here!!! Nestie vibes to you as you go through this.
I am sorry you are disappointed, but at this point in your lives, I think Hawaii will be quite an adventure! You'll have some frustrations getting organized and settled in, but in the end, I think it will be worth it. I know of a few people who have been stationed in Hawaii and everyone has great things to say about it.
Try to stay positive! Good luck!
I'm jealous!!
After our honeymoon, I wanted to start looking for jobs there
I, too, had a friend that was stationed there for a while. Her situation was never permanent though. She was there for 3 months, and then on a month to month basis (this might have been even once she was a civilian again, but doing the same job she had in the air force). She wished she was there for a designated period of time- because she thought more people would have visited & she would have been able to make more of an effort to have a life there if she had known ahead of time she was going to be there for over a year.
Hang in there! What a fun adventure to experience!!
I'm jealous too, though I can definitely see why you're bummed about it. DH wants me to look for a job there when I finish my degree.
Hang in there - I'm sure it'll be a great experience for you once the kinks are worked out. And if you can't find work, you can learn to surf!
