i think there's something i'm missing....

here on the TN...

whenever you post something, or reply to a post, it has like a little snipit thing about you under your pic with how many posts you've done and points and "newbie" with a little bubble thing (on most of us, not all of us)...

what are the points for? what do they mean? i'm just curious, because i have quite a few and i wana know why! lol...

random question, i know, but work is VERY dull today, and i'm bored :)

Re: i think there's something i'm missing....

  • oh, i guess the bubble thing means i'm online.... duh, just rolled my pointer over it.... lol... and also the little white squares, mine says "not ranked" when i roll over it.... hmmmm....

  • You're not alone.. i've often wondered the exact same thing!

  • The little bubble thing is there when someone is actually on TN (sort of like the green dot on FB chat) If it's not there then they're not online at that time.

I don't understand the points, but I'm guessing its just something to do with how many posts you make, and how many posts you respond to.

  • I browsed another board the other day and there was someone with 10,000 posts and they had one square filled in blue.  If 10,000 posts gets you one square, I probably won't EVER get one of those filled in.  Are there really people with over 80,000 posts????

  • I have no idea what the point of the points or the 'ranking' are. My question is why do some people have thier location on that box, and most people don't. I tired to go into settings and figure out how to get that to show up, and can't find it...hm.
  • It's all a mystery. No one knows :)

And how sad is that if you had 80,000 posts?

I googled all this at one point because I could never find the answer and I still ended up with really vague answers. The best I could come up with is this...

The points at one time could be redeemed for 'prizes' I typically saw ads for diapers with so many points. I don't think it's used like that anymore so I don't know why they never got rid of it. You get so many points for starting a thread, replying to threads, and when others reply to your original posts.

As for the location stuff, again, you could change it at one point on TN but they've taken that function away too. So that is why some users have a location and others don't. I've seen people complaining about not being able to change their location because of a move or something so it's stuck the way it is regardless.

As for the ranking, I think it's just dumb. Who cares how everyone is ranked on here, it's a message board but that's just my personal opinion :)

  • I have been trying to figure out the whole point system too, and I'm stumped.  I think it also has something to do with TK, since I had a whole lot of points when I came over to TN even though I had zero points.

I don't know if it has to do with posts/replying, because I have a LOT more points than some people who have a LOT more posts than I do.

I also wonder at what point you get different ranks, like newbie/gold/platinum, etc.

I guess it is all a mystery!

Your first 10,000 points gets you to bronze, after that I have no clue how many points it is to everything else.
