Help me figure out a gift
Our neighbors that we're really friendly with moved their wedding up to September (from next July). They're doing a small family ceremony/lunch at a restaurant and then inviting friends over their house in the evening for dinner and drinks. We're in Europe, so we obviously can't go. The few other weddings we've declined, I sent something off the wedding registry, but they're not doing one because the wedding's happening so soon.
Any good ideas?
I was thinking some $$, plus something nice. I thought about picking up something while we're in Europe, but that feels sort of like rubbing it in that we were travelling (they're not taking a honeymoon).
Maybe something personalized from Etsy? I'll take links to anything you recommend!

Do they already have a house together? Do you know their decor? One thing I got that I loved was a picture frame that had a collage in script writing of our names and wedding date and all that. I liked it (obviously have since trashed it, lol).
I think something personalized that they wouldn't normally go out and get might be nice... like a picture frame, a blanket, a sign for the front of their house (you know the so-and-so and so-and-so, established ....), etc.
One of my favorite wedding gifts is a sign that has our name formed with letters from random things. No clue how much it was though.
I definately want to get something along the lines of personalized/keepsake-y.
I'm not sure if I should get something with the last name, though. She has a 6-year-old from another relationship... would she not take his name to keep the same last name as her daughter? I guess I could ask, but I sort of feel weird about it.
And, since they're not going on a honeymoon, I don't really think they're travellers.

A first Xmas ornament and something else?
Last night for our anniversary I served our dessert on a cute little plate that says happy anniversary on it. My mom gave us one plate to share and two mugs. She got it all at home goods.

These just use first names, the date & place of wedding, so you avoid the last name issue. Except for the second one..you just pick the state they are getting married in too

I like the link Tara posted. That looks really pretty. You know them better than me bit they might actually like something from Europe. It would t be anything someone else could get them.
I like the picture frame idea, with their first names and wedding date.
