Need a good story to get DH to renew his passport

DH turns 40 in December and I want to surprise him with a long weekend without the kids-probably somewhere requiring a passport. His just expired in March and we don't have any plans for international travel in the near future. What kind of story can I tell him to get him to renew it now? Any ideas?

  • If he isn't one to look at any of the paperwork (ie, you will be filling it out and sending it in), other than signing - perhaps tell him that if he waits until after it has been expired for a year or more, it costs more for the renewal.  So it needs to get done now.

  • i probably wouldn't make up a story. all he has to do is go onto the website to see what the renewal/expired fees are.

why not just remind him it's going to expire and that he should get it renewed so that he has it just in case that way he wont have to worry about it?

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • oh sorry-i thought you wrote 'would expire' not 'has expired'.

I think this is the best idea.  My husband is pretty smart but he is cheap.  Once he hears the words "huge fine" he would pony up and get it done.

This is what I was going to say - "Hey, I was organizing and came across our passports the other day and noticed that yours was expired, so we'll have to renew it..."
