Just came back from Grand Palladium Akumal, after an 11-day "girls' trip" with my sister and baby niece. AI is not something we normally go for, but this time, with a 9-mo, we chose comfort and convenience. The reviews of this place are consistently great, and I must admit, it is a perfectly fine resort: silky sand, good food, exotic animals roaming the property...
I just felt so out of place! I probably won't go to an AI again. What upset me the most was large groups of fellow Americans, with their floats, drinks, and hot dogs, partying daily right in the Caribbean Sea - not some pool from which you can fish out the glasses, throw in a bit of chlorine, and reuse - the sea, you know, with corals and turtles and endangered species... If it were up to me, I would fine them so hard they would never be able to afford to leave their Main Street... All this free booze sure does bring out the stupid in some people...
Re: I am so over AIs...
Very true, everywhere - though maybe, in weaker concentration (of person per sq. ft. of the sea, and alcohol per person
I think when you are free to move around, it's easier to avoid them; whereas, in the AI+baby situation, we had to stay put and deal with it - but that's my personal take on things.
In AIs, people drink in excess since "they either already paid for it or view it as free". The AI atmosphere promotes drinking alot (waiters on the beach, bars all over) where a normal hotel does not. Don't get me wrong, I drink more at AIs too but refrain from being loud, obnoxious, and drunk. I just take a beach nap
Of course, and I would hate to see it just as much at any other place. Turning the sea into the pool of urine and food scraps is not my idea of having a good time - too bad there isn't a policy against it. And as I said, at AI, I just felt I couldn't get away from it...
LOL you're rightbut i'm also surprised. i've been down to cancun and RM 11 times or so over thepast 10 years and haven't ever seen anything like that. but fish pee too......just saying. pee isn't much of an issue to me. what IS an issue is people that dont use biodegradable sunscreen. that will kill stuff faster than anything.
