A successful day trip to the shore!
I just wanted to thank you all again for all of the advice! When we woke up on Saturday to rain, (it was not supposed to rain on Saturday!) we thought about ditching the plans for a shore day but decided to give it a try and hope for the best. I ended up choosing OCNJ for the location so that we could explore the boardwalk until the weather cleared. We left Philly around 9:30 and found a free parking spot on 1st Street, 3 blocks from the beach, around 11:15/11:30. It was still raining so we left our beach stuff in the car and went for a walk on the boardwalk. Our first stop was Brown?s Donuts. They were delicious and worth walking in the rain any day! We continued wandering until we hit Fralinger?s Taffy and Fudge. We picked up a box of taffy and then started heading back since it looked like the weather was wanting to finally clear. On the way back we stopped in for a Manco Pizza and then hit up Johnson?s Popcorn to grab a bucket for later. From what I can tell, the only ?have to try food? we missed was the ice cream. The weather cleared around 1:30 and we set up on the beach for a fun and relaxing afternoon. Around 6:30 we decided to pack up and head over to Smitty?s Claim Bar for dinner. The wait was 1.5 hours so we walked over to a store to grab a six pack and then sat along the water while waiting to be called. The food was so worth the wait and we had a delicious meal! We got an order of steamers, an order of little necks, I got a cup of the New England Clam Chowder (the didn?t have the red crab soup) and the Seafood Garlic, my mother got the Tuna Bake and my friend got the Seafood Salad. I want to go back again and again; that place was amazing! By the time we got back, it was 11:00 and I was exhausted! It was a fabulous day and I can?t wait to go back and do it all again! Thank you so so much for all the help and advice.

Sounds like a great day! I hope I can squeeze in another day off before the end of the summer and go to OC with DH. My ultimate goal in life is to own a place at the shore someday.
