Can we talk about the CFA thing?
Does anyone have an opinion on it?
Is anyone going to boycott?
Re: Can we talk about the CFA thing?
Its complicated for me and I have some conflicting feelings. First of all, its their right to support whatever charities etc they want, and also to define themselves as a Christian company or whatever. It is also our right to patronize or not patronize them as we see fit, so its a two way street.
Personally, I do not like the fact that they took their profits and gave them to an anti-gay group who fights gay rights. However, I do like CFA's food, I like the fact that their restaurants are clean, and their employees actually act like they give a crap when you go there, and for that reason I find going to eat there much more enjoyable than any other fast food restaurant. So the whole thing is kind of bumming me out.
I kind of wish they would just STFU and serve delicious chicken.
I think its because their CEO just officially confirmed their anti-gay (or as they put it, pro-family) stance in an interview. They had denied having an agenda in the past.
I'm super conflicted about the whole thing.
I really like CFA and DD really likes CFA. I don't like how they use their company profits, but if I follow that logic, am I supposed to refuse to patronize any establishment if I disagree w/ the charitable contibutions?
I think my personal compromise is that I'm going to keep going there, but I'm also going to start giving HRCF a contibution equal to what I spend at CFA.
Money from our bank accounts won't be going into CFA's anymore. I think that's the shortest summary of my opinions on the matter.
Same...I have to say though they make it pretty clear they are a Christian organization and that means they support those beleifs which includes beleiving that marriage is between a woman and man, pro-life, etc. SO I am not suprised. I won't stop buying Chick fil A because of this but it doesn't mean I agree. I am sure there are plently of other establishments that support ideas or beleifs I don't agree with.....it's a tough call on my end.
I'm honestly having conflicting feelings about it. Some Churches, including Catholics which I am, teach that gay marriage is wrong. Even though I am Catholic, I do not believe this, but if other Christians do not believe in gay marriage, can I condemn them for believing what they've been taught? I struggle with this. To openly hate gay people, yes, I judge them for that, but I feel like I cannot judge them for not supporting gay marriage.
I don't even know if I'm making sense.
I have never been fully comfortable eating there. I have always known that my money goes to causes I probably didn't agree with. I justified it by the fact that they are closed on Sundays. Even though I don't respect their stance on most issues, I respect the fact that they stand true to their beliefs even when it causes them to lose profits. I don't think that is enough justification for me anymore.
If we boycott everyone that has a different opinion than us, we would live in a lonely world with no friends.
Do I agree with the president believes or actions? Not at all.
Will I boycot CFA? Why would I? It's his believe and most CFA's are franchise owned anyway. The owner of your local CFA might dislike his opinion as much as we do.
CFA's religious beliefs have been well documented in the past and I continued to support their business even though I differed than their beliefs. The thing that really ticked me off last week was when their president made a comment saying that the youth of America are arrogant for trying to redefine God's definition of a marriage.
That upset me immensely and with that comment I was done with CFA.
There are a ton of organizations I don't support because I don't like their business practices or beliefs. I'm not a fan of Hobby Lobby, not because they're a Christian organization, but because they're a so-called Christian organization that produces the overwhelming majority of their products in a communist nation that isn't cool with its citizens being practicing Christians. It looks like the almighty dollar won in that battle.

And that's another thing--the CFA are individually owned so I'm sure that not all of the franchise owners agree with him either. It's a shame that they might lose money and business because of Cathy's beliefs and/or statements. It's not like they can just pick up and leave their restaurants.
I'm pretty sure most/all of the CFA franchisees (but not necessarily employees) are on board w/ the CFA way. I'm sure they are strongly encouraged to donate certain portion of their proceeds to the Foundation.
I'm not boycotting CFA.
I'm Catholic, they wanted me to sign a petition to "save marriage", just because I don;t see eye to eye with the church does not mean I'm going to stop going to church there.
Yes they have. They are so hardcore religious they are closed on sunday.
