Top Tier of Wedding Cake

Are you going to wait a year to eat the top tier of your cake?  I'm not sure if it's still going to taste as amazing in a year.  I thought about waiting 6 months instead, but that's right around New Years for us and I'm sure we'll have a ton of Christmas desserts hanging around and won't eat it then.

Re: Top Tier of Wedding Cake

  • Not a chance. We ate ours on our honeymoon and will get an anniversary cake for our 1 year anniversary. Not a chance I would ever eat a freezer burned 1 yr old cake! ISH!!!

  • We ate ours on our one-week "anniversary!" It was sooooo good and I know it wouldn't have been as good in a year. Plus, cake sitting anywhere in our house taunting me will never, ever work. :-)

We ate ours when we got back from the HM. Still okay, but not fresh!

It wasn't worth freezing the cake, we get a free anniversary cake.

  • The top tier of our wedding cake is sitting in my parents in law deep freeze because they live close to where we got married and we don't have the space in our freezer.

We plan to go ahead and eat the cake on our 1st yr anniversary.

Funny story, my husband said he ate his sister's top of her cake. He was only about five and he said he saw some cake in the freezer so decided to snack on it. His mom saw him and asked him where he got that cake from. LOL.

I do like the idea of an anniversary cake though.

    Peachy, why is yours free?

  • Our baker is going to make us a top tier for our one-year anniversary, in whatever flavor we want (free). So, no, haha. We ate what was left of our bottom layer (the best part) when we got back from the honeymoon.

  • Ours is currently in our freezer but the amount of space it's taking up in there is crazy.  Every time I open the freezer to put something in it I think about pulling it out.

This- I'm almost tempted to ask H is we can eat it and just get a cake for our one year.

  • We ate half of our top tier when we returned from our honeymoon, and put the other half in the freezer for our one year anniversary.  If it tastes awful after one year, it's fine with us because we did get to enjoy some of it.
  • My BIL/SIL used the same baker we used and they said the top tier tasted the same on their one year anniversary as it did on their wedding day. My IL's is keeping the top tier in their big freezer for us.

  • We gave away all of our leftover cake including the top tier at our wedding. We were leaving for our two HM and didn't want to mess with it lol  We are going to be getting a new one for our first annversary.

  • We're waiting a year! I wrapped it in suran wrap and then put it in a tupperware/air tight container in our fridge. I know it's probably not going to taste the best after a year, but it's still a tradition! Our bakery also makes you a {free} replica (in flavor) top tier on your one year anniversary, so I know we'll have yummy cake with our year old cake. We also saved the bottle of champagne we were given on our honeymoon to drink on our one year anniversary. It's going to be so fun! :)

I also know someone who cut their top tier into 12 pieces and had one slice on each of their "monthiversaries" for the first year.

  • We're waiting a year! Our baker gave us fool-proof directions on how to keep it awesome and my mom followed them to a T. Every once in a while I wonder what is in the airtight container in the freezer then I remember it's our cake. Duh.

Kelsey, that's a really cute idea! (The 12 pieces for monthaversaries)

  • Nope. We already started eating ours. I don't have room in the freezer for it, and I've heard it can taste pretty nasty. We'll just have a mini version of our cake made for our anniversary.

  • Hmm I really like that monthiversaries idea!  Too bad I already know FI will be away on business for our one month anniversary :(

I think maybe we'll wait, if I can finagle some room in my parents' big freezer (definitely won't fit in ours).  I like your idea about the champagne Kelsey.  We had a bottle in our room on the hotel night and we didn't drink it, I think that's a great idea to save it for the cake!

  • We ate half of the top tier after our wedding.  The other half we cut into slices (6 of them) and frozen them as slices.  We are each having a slice for our month anniversaries for the next 3 months.  The slices we took out for July 9th were actually still really really good!  I'm hopeful the next 2 months are like that too!

  • Ohh I love the monthervasiry (i so totally spelt that wrong- sorry) idea.
  • We're doing it! Its being stored in my moms freezer because we'll be moving and I don't want to risk the defrosting and re-freezing. I love that tradition, so we're going to do it!

  • Ours is in our deep freeze, just waiting!  Only another 11 months and 11 days! Hahaha...
  • My parents threw us a Wedding Picture Party last weekend for family and the wedding party to see all of the pictures and videos that were taken. It was a BBQ and for dessert we ate the top tier of the cake.  It was still awesome a month and half later.  I heard it was gross the yr after,2 so we thought we would share it now and we would eat the rest.

I wanted to keep ours because my mom sealed it really well but this is why H said no
