Are you going to wait a year to eat the top tier of your cake? I'm not sure if it's still going to taste as amazing in a year. I thought about waiting 6 months instead, but that's right around New Years for us and I'm sure we'll have a ton of Christmas desserts hanging around and won't eat it then.

Re: Top Tier of Wedding Cake
We ate ours when we got back from the HM. Still okay, but not fresh!
It wasn't worth freezing the cake, we get a free anniversary cake.
First Look
The top tier of our wedding cake is sitting in my parents in law deep freeze because they live close to where we got married and we don't have the space in our freezer.
We plan to go ahead and eat the cake on our 1st yr anniversary.
Funny story, my husband said he ate his sister's top of her cake. He was only about five and he said he saw some cake in the freezer so decided to snack on it. His mom saw him and asked him where he got that cake from. LOL.
I do like the idea of an anniversary cake though.
Peachy, why is yours free?
This- I'm almost tempted to ask H is we can eat it and just get a cake for our one year.

Sorry it won't let me delete my double post.
We gave away all of our leftover cake including the top tier at our wedding. We were leaving for our two HM and didn't want to mess with it lol We are going to be getting a new one for our first annversary.
We're waiting a year! I wrapped it in suran wrap and then put it in a tupperware/air tight container in our fridge. I know it's probably not going to taste the best after a year, but it's still a tradition! Our bakery also makes you a {free} replica (in flavor) top tier on your one year anniversary, so I know we'll have yummy cake with our year old cake. We also saved the bottle of champagne we were given on our honeymoon to drink on our one year anniversary. It's going to be so fun!
I also know someone who cut their top tier into 12 pieces and had one slice on each of their "monthiversaries" for the first year.

We're waiting a year! Our baker gave us fool-proof directions on how to keep it awesome and my mom followed them to a T. Every once in a while I wonder what is in the airtight container in the freezer then I remember it's our cake. Duh.
Kelsey, that's a really cute idea! (The 12 pieces for monthaversaries)
Hmm I really like that monthiversaries idea! Too bad I already know FI will be away on business for our one month anniversary
I think maybe we'll wait, if I can finagle some room in my parents' big freezer (definitely won't fit in ours). I like your idea about the champagne Kelsey. We had a bottle in our room on the hotel night and we didn't drink it, I think that's a great idea to save it for the cake!
