We adopted our little girl "Athena" from a young girl on Craigslist. She had got her from a friend whose German Sheperd had puppies. They don't know who the father is, so now I'm left wondering what my baby is mixed with. She is going to be 4 months old first week of August and is only around 15lbs. She was 8 lbs when we got her two months ago. So she's doubled her size, but she is still pretty small for being almost 4 months old. A typical purebred German Sheperd would be about 30-40 lbs by now, from what I've seen.
Any ideas on what she's mixed with? I know she's still young and we'll have a better idea when she's older, but I'm mainly just curious. No matter what she is, we'll love her just the same.
I find it sometimes difficult to really tell what breeds a dog might be until they're a bit older. I actually just read an article talking about how difficult it is to visually determine what mix of breeds a dog might be.
I looked at the photo in your profile, I definitely see the german shep but not sure what else. No matter what her other half is, she's definitely a cutie!
Thanks! We just love her! We're just wondering why she isn't getting as big as we thought. We have her vet appointment next week though, so we'll see what she thinks.
I agree, it is really early to tell, but she's definitely got German Sheperd features.
My girl is the same way, she's now 7 months old and we still have no idea what she's mixed with. She a light brindle, and 30 pounds. I know her mother is a lab mix, but not sure of much else. She has to be mixed with somthing that carries brindle coloring, but that's a pretty large range. I don't think we'll ever know, but she's an awesome dog regardless.
My pup is mixed with German Shepard too..she has all of the coloring and people oftern mistake her being a gshep puppy but we assure them she's full grown. It's hard to say what they are mixed with but we've heard that behavior traits will help to deteremine that as she gets olderl. She's super cute! But with all gshep mixes, make sure you train her and watch her behavior closer as she gets older. They are known to be protectors. Our vet warned us that right around the 2 year mark, her behavior might change and be somewhat more aggressive towards those that get close to our family. We didnt really heed her advice since she was mixed, but let me tell you...right around 2 years she became super protective and no one gets close to my husband or I.
Sorry that most of my jokes are borderline inappropriate. And by sorry, I mean you're welcome.

I've heard of that too. We definitely keep a close eye on her, especially with two other dogs in the house. I don't want her pickin up bad habits or teaching them bad habits.
The part that's been really cool with her is watching her eyes change shape. I can't wait to see if she ends up with sheperd ears.
Our GSD mix looks like yours. She is half GSD, half beagle, with a hound personality but smarter. Its a crap shoot and I'm sure she'll wind up being her own version of wonderful. Molly tells us when people are at the house but has never been protective and she is 2 and a half or so.
"...Saving just one pet won't change the world...but, surely, the world will change for that one pet..."
there are many types of dogs in the world. every type has some different characteristics. most dogs have their weight or any properties changing very quickly. some don't have. so wait for few months and then see the results.
