I am so tired of all the paperwork in the last month and a half surrounding changing my name and combining H and my assets. I feel like I am losing my mind...anyone else with me?
First I finally got my SS card only to have the DMV accidentally steal it. I panicked when I could not find it and went back to the DMV to ask if they still had it and they swore they didn't. So I had to drag my sorry butt back to the SS office and file for a new card. 3 days later a letter came in the mail...with my SS card...the DMV did have it and it got mixed in with paperwork...
From there I feel like I have been battling everyone. I switched jobs, so new paperwork, new passport, new EVERYTHING. I joined H's account...so getting bank stuff figured out and our latest issue--car insurance. I have been asking H over and over to get on the ball with adding me to his formal insurance so I could register the Jeep in our new state because my emissions tags are about to go dead and he's been kind of dragging his feet which is stressing me out. I finally got after him tonight and we are somewhere now...I just felt bad. I understand his level of urgency...but he didn't get mine until I finally showed him a calendar with August next week.
Anyone else losing their mind? Or am I alone? Haha...that's ok...just had to vent.
Re: Who's tired of paperwork?
For those I just made copies of our marriage license and sent a note asking them to change my name and mailed it with our last bill. So far it's worked for our utilities and my student loans. Just thought I'd share as it was a relatively easy and simplified process.
I sent our marriage license and stuff to all of those people too...it has just been the joining the accounts thing/them losing my SS card and me switching jobs that have been a pain. Everything else has been relatively painless...hahaha
H had all the utilities in his name, so i didn't even switch it...I just use his name and password and help manage the bills so at least that part was easy!
Maybe I'll give that a try! Then it would be just the online bill pay ones. I'll get around to it eventually =]
man! that sucks! i've been really lucky so far! DH and i sat down and made up a list of every place we could think of that i needed to change my name. i live in a really small town so the dmv was super easy (and he didn't even need to see my ss card), i had to go out of town to change my name with ss, but luckily that was 20 minutes in and out.
wells fargo was super easy, maybe 10 minutes in and out.
i just got a new job too and had to change my name with them, but HR was really helpful and made it easy.
luckily DH already had the utilities at the new place in his name, so i didn't have to bother with that
and a bunch of places all i had to do was call and tell them my new name!
of course... i'm not finished, but so far i've been lucky
EDIT: actually, the most annoying of everything has been combining our auto insurance with state farm, we both had individual state farm insurance policies, but the lady that is combining them here at the place we just moved, i swear, she's incompetent. i actually called my old agent in NC to answer a bunch of questions for me because this lady here has no clue what's going on.... but, i'm making hubby deal with her...

OMG I was literally just thinking about this! Both DH and I hyphenated so it's nice that we are going through this process together, but it is seriously a pain in the a$$. Social media sites, email, and magazine subscriptions were the easiest by far!
We live on Martha's Vineyard island and we had to travel to the mainland to get our new social security card so that was a pain. Since we work during bank hours and our bank is only open Saturdays 8-12 it was hard for us to get to the bank with all of our wedding cash and checks, but we just opened up joint checking and savings and got our new checks and debit cards with our new names. We changed our W-2 forms with our work. We still have yet to do our drivers license and registration, but we have all of the paperwork filled out we just need to find the time to go during work.
I contacted both DH and my student loan lenders to change our name on there and they require a written letter and a copy of the marriage license. Our electricity bill company required a copy of marriage license for the name change on the account as well. Seriously strange!
DH has been on me to contact my car insurance company because I am going to see if we can get a better deal if he is on mine than what he has now, but it is so hard to find the time during work to call. Plus I need to change my name on that.
I am seriously kicking myself in the a$$ for not completing all of this stuff as soon as I got marriage license before I started working full-time!
It's a pain, but I was super excited to receive my first magazine with my new name, and I am sure I will be just as excited when I see it on my electricity bill
Oh it's definitely been a giant PITA! Our RMV was TERRIBLE! They reissued my license with my new name but never changed my signature!!
Email's a good one. For you ladies who had your maiden name in your email what are you doing with that?
I started a new email account. It was strangely refreshing to only give my email out to the people I wanted to have it and not have all the weird spam that had collected on the other one.
I just changed my name as it appears when I send emails to others, but my email is still firstname.middleinitial.maidenlastname@email.com. I don't know what I want to change it to (when I eventually do) because I hyphenated my last name and my email account doesn't recognize the hyphen symbol
