Struggling with school

I was talking to DH last night about school. I am seriously struggling with it, not because it is hard but because I cannot find the motivation to want to have anything to do with it. I have a paper that is due tomorrow... I haven't even started it yet. It's only a 3 to 5 page paper so I know it wont take me more than an hour to finish. Yet here I sit nesting instead of working on my paper.

Part of me wants to just take a break and get back too it when I am ready to focus on it. I just dont know what my deal is... it kinda sucks.

Thanks for listening to my little vent.

Re: Struggling with school

  • What are you going to school for? Finding the motivation to continue school is definitely hard to find sometimes.

  • I am in school to get my masters degree in HR. When I started I was working in an HR role so it was very motivating. I recently went back to my old company and work in the business office so I have little to do with HR. Of course the fact that I am pmsing doesn't help with any of this lol.

  • Haha posing definitely doesn't help anything. I know what you mean. I'm starting my 2 year masters program next semester in Social Work. I graduated in December with my Bachelors in Psychology and Family Relations and was excited to keep my education going. Since then, I've gotten married and got a full time job (that I had to stop after 6 months since I'm going back into a full time program). I got the taste of working full time and it's hard for me to stop working.

I wish you lucky though! You'll be glad in a few years that you finished, so you don't have to worry about it. How much longer do you have left?

  • I totally had this at the beginning of summer in looking for a job. I was convinced I didn't want to teach anymore. But it has passed. Sometimes, you just won't have any motivation for school. It doesn't mean that you don't want to be there.

  • Amity, I'm right there with you.  I'm so burnt out on school right now.  I've been going full time while working full time for 3 years, including summers.  I've got one year left but of course it's the hardest classes.  The first year and a half I was working on my Associates and those classes were so easy.  I had straight A's no problem.

Now with some of my classes, I'm happy just to pass with a C.  Like my current Income Tax class.  I have an in-class project tonight which is really more of a test and then my final on Monday.  I'm barely passing and both of these could make or break my grade.  It makes me want to cry.  Of course that could be the pregnancy hormones.  I'd love to take a break or drop down to part time school, but then it will take me that much longer. And I'm not sure I want to do school and a new baby for more than the two months I already will be.

Honestly I just don't care about school anymore.  Since I want to be a stay at home mom for a few years, I was asking myself why I had to finish my degree now.   And if I can't be a stay at home mom, I'll either stay in my current job which I don't need my degree per se, or I'll find something closer to home which will probably involve retail.

Sorry to hijack your vent.  Hopefully you get motivated to finish your paper.  How much longer do you have for your Masters?

  • I really think you should finish out the two months you have. You can fall back on your degree if you ever need it, and once the baby is in the picture, you will have very little motivation to go back. My mom was in your situation, ironically for accounting, and never finished. She really does regret it, even though she thought the same thing that you do right now.

  • For someone who struggled in school, I can honestly say that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I worked on my masters degree part time for 3 years and I just graduated this past May and let me tell you---------it was worth all the hard work! Yes, there were times I wanted to give up but in the end it felt like such a great accomplishment to have that degree!

Amity and Michelle-----you can do it!

Are you in my mind? I am in the exact same mental spot. I have a little over a year left. I think I may finish out this course and take a break to figure out what I want to do. I dont need a masters degree for my job. I would really hate to spend all that money and not do anything with my degree. I don't know I'll re-evaluate all this when I am not pmsing lol

  • I agree with the women!  The are wise women!  There is a light at the end of the tunnel.  Is there something that you can think of that will motivate you? Start small.  Once finish this paper, I get _____________.  Then once I finish my degree, I get to go to _____________.

    Thinking of you both!
