My Dad does it and I've helped him out in the summers with the tomatoes. We're a bit crazy, though, and make at least a hundred jars at a time- neighbors tend to camp out in front of the window and stare at us doing it. We can our tomatoes in bulk right from the garden. Picture doing this in a rainstorm with a big tarp hanging down from the balcony so we can work over a gigantic portable gas burner and I Love Lucy grape-stomping sized pot. I find it well worth it to have access to great stuff throughout the year. It does not need to be nearly as difficult or as dramatic as we make it, but it sure is a lot of fun .
