Not sure if I screwed up or not....

I just got home from a teaching interview and I have been on my share of them but this one I feel like I totally screwed up because I feel like I talked too much!  I know you are supposed to summarize your background, and I kind of did...but I still feel like it was TMI for them.  I really feel like my nerves got the best of me....I know none of you were there, but I need to know your opinions!  TIA!

Re: Not sure if I screwed up or not....

  • How much background personal stuff did you say? Like your childhood, fav pet, traumas?  Alittle is normally ok, IMO.  It helps the person to get to know you.

  • I meant my professional background not my personal.
  • Whew!  You were prob ok :)  It is so easy to overthink everything when you really want the position.

  • As an employer I like to hear as much as I can about people's professional backgrounds. You probably only blew it if you trash talked your old work, or made your history seem negative somehow. But as far as just talking too much... I'd rather have someone in an interview talk too much rather than too little.

If you don't get the job, go ahead and ask them how you did, what you could improve on, etc.
