Cheers for my olympic friend :)

Hey all!

So this may be silly, but I love the Olympics and even better--MY FRIEND IS IN THEM THIS YEAR!

I was a nationally competitive archer in college and if I could figure out how the heck to post a photo...I would...but anyway I retired to pursue my master/get married, but one of my teammates is currently in London.

Please cheer him on! His name is Jacob Wukie, he is currently ranked 12th in the first round which is really good for the first round! (Archery is a long sport so to be that high up is AWESOME).

He is obviously male, team USA!

I also have several other acquaintances on the rest of the team, but Jacob and I competed together so he holds a special place in my heart.

I am so excited for the Olympics!

Re: Cheers for my olympic friend :)

  • That's really exciting!!

My brother ran the Olympic trials in 2008 to qualify for the marathon team. He didn't make it, but I was so proud that he even qualified for the trials! I can't imagine actually knowing someone IN the Olympics!

  • That's so awesome! I will definitely watch archery now!

My cousin trained for the 1996 Olympics for gymnastics and tore her ACL at the Olympic trials (her family had to go into therapy after that because they had made so many sacrifices for it) but she trained with Jacie Phelps and Amanda Borden who both made the "Magnificent Seven" that year (if you recall, that was the year The US won gold over Russia because Kari Strug got a 10.0 on vault after ripping her ankle tendons and landing on one foot). Anyway, I got JP and AB's autographs before they were famous because I met them before the Olympic trials :-)

  • Oh yay! That's so exciting!

I used to work at Home Depot, when they sponsored Olympic athletes and one of my co-workers was a rower (2008). It was so cool to see her rowing for a medal on tv and a few weeks later seeing her back at work.

    GO TEAM USA!!

  • My family loves the Olympics, my father had polio and was actually in the paraolypmics before meeting my mother.  He was a swimmer, I have his gold medals and his opening ceremony jackets framed and in my office.
