Re: free/ low cost date night ideas?

  • We like mini golf and fishing.  Also local car shows and we have a lot of concert in the park programs that are free throughout the summer.  Most times they ask for some non perishable food items to donate to the food bank instead of an admission fee.

*Snack foods, your favorite radio station and a puzzle.

    *Go for a walk and/or a picnic

    *Bike Rides

*Go for a road trip some place local. Sometimes it's just nice to spend a day with no plan in mind and to just drive

*See what local festivals are going on in your area

*Take cooking or pottery classes (or anything else that interests you). Home Depot (and other big box stores) offer free "How To" Workshops on the weekends

*Watch the local weather channels to see if there will be any meteor showers any time soon. Find an open field (that you can legally park in), get a blanket and some snacks and spend the night cuddling watching the shower.

  • In the summer we go on picnics a lot. Either just packing up dinner or grabbing something like Subway. We went to Mt. Greylock on Saturday and there just happened to be a bunch of people paragliding, it was really awesome! We ended up staying and watching them for hours.

In the winter we'll do themed movie nights. We'll usually watch a couple related movies (if not a trilogy) and try to come up with snacks or a meal that matches that theme. Like one time we watched the X-Men movies and I made mozzarella sticks and called them Wolverine's claws or something dorky like that.

We also try to take advantage of any deals going on locally. $5 movie nights, etc. Try Living Social or Groupon if they have it in your area.

  • Making Pizza! get dinner done, and have fun with H doing it. Its one of my faves (since you have to spend the money on groceries anyways!)

Look for open houses and check them out.

Go out for just dessert instead of dinner.

  • Whiffle ball in the backyard. Sometimes we play soccer- just kicking the ball around. Or play catch or Frisbee.

    Walking the neighborhood.

Go out for ice cream or rootbeer floats

Go play in a local park...swing on the swings, play on the teter totter

    Mini golf or driving range

Antique shops. Sometimes it's fun looking at old stuff.

Look up your area and see if there are any events going on. Depending on where you live, maybe there is a tourist guide to find fun things to do and play tourist for a day.

Camping. State parks are generally pretty cheap, usually under $20/night. There's nothing like sitting by a fire, roasting marshmellows, and listening to the sounds of nature!

Drive. Find some scenic routes by the beach, lake, mountains. State websites will list things like this, under parks and rec or visitors site links.
