Window Treatments?

Hi gals,  getting ready to finally really move back.  I need window treatments.  I wanted shutters but since I am unsure how much longer we will be at Sassafrass I am not ready to make that sorta financial commitment.  I think wood blinds may work.  My second choice was roman shades.  I used to have white pompom curtains and really am over curtains unless they are in a amazing pattern, which right now i can't deal with.

So now that I babbled..... where do you get your window treatments?

We bought honeycomb blinds that go up from the bottom or down from the top (for our first floor bc we're in a townhouse and people walk by) at Lowe's.  We also bought a similar looking honeycomb blind that's only bottom up at BBB on clearance.  It's not as smooth to move up and down, but it's in a hall that we rarely change the way we have it anyway.
  • I'd rec Lowe's, HD, or BBB.

I went with JCP Custom Decorating and am having a horrible experience. TBH, the products are fine (custom draperies, aluminum blinds, wood blinds and cellular shades), but working with our decorator and installation has been a nightmare. They have already been out 3 times and still need to come back. Our decorator was MIA after collecting the deposit and did not submit the order as agreed to- thank God I had copies of everything in her handwriting, including sketches.

I went with custom b/c I felt I didn't have time to do the leg work, measure thing and check out stores. I've wasted so much more time dealing with their "customer service," than I would have if I shopped on my own! So frustrating!

But, to answer your question, we are happiest with the wood blinds- they look great and are easy to maintain. The draperies are beautiful, but not really worth the headache (installed wrong so we get to spackle and repaint- it will be three walls in total- grrr). This is my first experience with shades, and while they are pretty, it makes spying out of windows more challenging.

  • We bought your standard white horizontal blinds from HD. We measured all the windows and they cut them for us. You also need to know the length or you can wind up with a blind that is too short! The hardware is easy to install, DH did it. Then the blind just snaps in. We'be only had to replace 2 in the last 6 6 years we have lived in our home.

Las for drapes that's a whole other story, I still have some bare windows. Lol

  • I have gotten a lot of good deals from JCPenney's website over the years.  The downside is that the stuff is usually not available in their stores, so you can't see it in person first.  I really like pleated shades and cellular shades (although the cellular ones tend to be pricey).

  • faux wood blinds in Sam's room from lowe's. i love them

regular blinds in our room, Ava's room, playroom and bathrooms - from lowe's too -  Ava also has PBK valences that match her bed quilt set. I'd love to figure out a window treatment for our room.

kitchen windows and patio door (sliding panels) in coordinating set from JCP online

dining room - roller shade and long drapes from Ikea

living room double curtain rod, inside is crinkle material that lets light in even when closed and outer layer is a thicker waffle pattern that is long - both from BBB

  • I also have the faux wood blinds from either HD or Lowes.  They are great and I've had them up for six years and they still look new.

I have shades in our bedrooms, because I like as little light as possible to come in as possible when sleeping.
