Thank you for good thoughts and prayers..Tristan took it well
When he came home the other night and we told him his first words were "this can't be real" and cried. However we talked and he actually understands pretty well and also told me "Mommy everything happens for a reason". We will be sad for a long time to come but he understands we need to just make the best of the time we have now.
He took the news better than I did. Thank you all again.

I'm glad he took it well.
When we put our dog down a few months ago, we were really worried about telling Aiden. When DH told him, he replied with "Did Daddy have to take an airplane to take Sammy to heaven." Totally not the reply we were expecting, but a perfect reply and proof that he got it.
I hope that the coming weeks and months are kind to your family.

Oh goodness. Cue the tears again. How in the world did you not lose it?
I'm glad he took the news well and I think it was good that you told him.
Hugs.
