How was your weekend?

  • Highs?
  • Lows?
  • Watch anything good?
  • Eat/make anything good?
  • Read anything good?
  • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc?
  • What are you looking forward to this week?

Re: How was your weekend?

    • Highs? Pool party play date on Saturday was an absolute blast! And on Sunday, E, M and I put the baby's furniture together. Oh, and my cat got a kleenex box stuck on her head last night. That was pretty damn funny.
    • Lows? Not enough cleaning, not enough sleep. And we went out to dinner last night but my food was rather crappy and M was poorly behaved. Thankfully it was bedtime when we got home.
    • Watch anything good? I'm almost through the fourth season of Mad Men! I'm sad because season 5 isn't available on Netflix streaming yet :(
    • Eat/make anything good? Sushi on Friday night and a variety of tasty treats at the play date on Saturday.
    • Read anything good? Nope.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? I am so frustrated by my inability to decorate my house. Last night I was on Etsy, trying to find a variety of prints that would coordinate well for a collage wall in the baby's room. I finally gave up and contacted the artist behind the print I originally fell in love with and asked her to do some custom work for me. I envy people who can cobble various things together and have it look beautiful. We're planning to buy master bedroom furniture soon and I'm totally overwhelmed by simply picking a flippin' paint color, not to mention deciding what to hang on the walls.
    • What are you looking forward to this week? It being over?

    • Highs? Welcome home party for friends was a huge hit, A loved swimming all weekend. Not only did she go swimming on Saturday but also Sunday.
    • Lows? Getting up on Monday was hard.
    • Watch anything good? Some Olympics stuff.
    • Eat/make anything good? I made this shrimp and herb mac and cheese that everyone seemed to rave about.
    • Read anything good? I finished another piece of my heart and that was good.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? Just that Caroline is talking up a storm, lots of coo's all day. Loving it!
    • What are you looking forward to this week? We have family coming into town this weekend, so we have a pretty fun packed weekend ahead.

    • Highs? Saturday was pretty awesome!  The pool party playdate was fun and DD swam like a fish the whole time, after I got home, DD and DH headed out and I went out w/ some girlfriends for a yummy dinner and drinks @ Iron Bridge!
    • Lows? I haven't slept well the last week or so, so I'm gettign anxiety about going to sleep, which then makes it harder to sleep!
    • Watch anything good? Not really, the Olympics ceremony Friday night and then Political Animals last night
    • Eat/make anything good? Blueberry cheesecake bread pudding @ Iron Bridge, scallops and pea risotto
    • Read anything good? My Kindle Fire has died and I'm having a hard time without it.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? nah - but its early in the day/week yet
    • What are you looking forward to this week?  It looks like we will end up buying a new truck for DH this weekend.

    • Highs? Relaxing day with DH yesterday then we went to my sister's for dinner/Olympics/game night.

    • Lows? We got nothing done around the house.  He fixed our running toilet and I did laundry.  No cleaning, grocery shopping, etc.

    • Watch anything good? The Olympics and finished season two of Breaking Bad.

    • Eat/make anything good? Sister made quesadillas and guac. Yum!  I made a chocolate chip bundt cake that tasted great but the batter was so light and fluffy the chocolate chips separated from the batter.  So it was a layer of chocolate chips on the top and plain cake on the bottom.  I've never had that happen before.

    • Read anything good? No

    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? Vent: I am on the complaint letter team at work.  I really enjoy responding to these letters; however, one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone writes in for the Passenger that has the complaint.   If your 20 year old daughter that attends college halfway across the country had a complaint, she should write in, not dad. If your wife has a complaint, she should write in.  Not her husband who wasn't traveling!
    • FFFC: I locked our cat in the room that's being renovated over night.   She followed me in and I forgot to make sure she came out with me.  I woke up at 7am to her crying :( As soon as I let her out, all she wanted to do was cuddle.  Unlike my old cat, I'm glad she doesn't hold a grudge!

    • What are you looking forward to this week? My four day weekend!!

    • Highs? Had a fun day with my Dad Saturday - went to see birds of prey at the bird store and had lunch and ice cream out.
    • Lows? I've been feeling like crap lately and have no energy. I think I have opposite seasonal affective disorder - I can't wait for cold weather.
    • Watch anything good? Watched Wanderlust - thought it was pretty cute.
    • Eat/make anything good? Went to Paladar for my Mom's birthday and it was so good. Also got ice cream at Jojo's.
    • Read anything good? Finished Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts and wasn't crazy about it. Now I'm reading The Matchmaker of Perigord by Julia Stuart.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? Can't really think of anything yet.
    • What are you looking forward to this week? Dogsitting my mom's sweet little beagle and payday.
    • Highs? Saturday morning pool party/play group was lots of fun and I was so happy that DS liked the pool! That afternoon I went to Target (for no specific reason - dangerous!) and then I stopped by Wegman's to see what the hell all the hype is about - I'd never been. Sunday, DS slept in AND took an easy 2 hour nap. Then DH came home from his trip!!!
    • Lows? DS was cranky yesterday evening and there was a diapering mishap that caused a pretty big mess Confused
    • Watch anything good? Caught some of the Olympics. Of course there was nothing good on when DS was napping and I actually had time to watch!
    • Eat/make anything good? I made some banana muffins for the play group. They were decent.
    • Read anything good? No.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? I can't really think of anything right now!
    • What are you looking forward to this week? Normalcy. The past 3 weeks have been insane and I am looking forward to getting back on track.

    • Lows? two pool parties meant neglected laundry and dishes....oops
    • Watch anything good? barely turned on the TV this weekend
    • Eat/make anything good? roseda farms burgers on the grill-my fave
    • Read anything good? I just finished reading Jarrettsville by Cornelia Nixon. its a fun little read if you like historical fiction (which I do!) made even more interesting by the fact that it takes place in the town where I grew up.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? none yet...just tired....nothing new

Toss the chocolate chips in flour before adding them to the batter - it will help combat them sinking during the baking process.

    • Highs? Coming home from a work trip on Friday and just getting to relax at home with DH and DS.
    • Lows? I didn't make it to the pool party GTG :(  Traveling while 30 weeks PG was a lot harder on my body than I thought it would be and I was exhausted and my back has been killing me.  Also DS kicked my stomach really hard Saturday night when he and DH were playing on the bed, so now I'm paranoid if I don't feel her move every hour.
    • Watch anything good?  I was happy to catch the US/Col womens soccer game on Saturday
    • Eat/make anything good? DH felt inspired on Saturday so he went and bought Angus steaks, king crab legs, fresh sweet corn and grilled/steamed it all up, it was amazing
    • Read anything good? I'm reading the new Vince Flynn book, Kill Shot
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? Vent-my flight out of TX was at 6 am on Friday, so I checked out of my hotel at 4am.  They hotel didn't have receipts ready so they said they would email them later.  I didn't get it until saturday, but didn't look at it until today.  So there is a $75 room service charge that I did not make and when I called the billing person acted like I waited so long to call about it and that it would take time, and was basically not very nice about it when it would have been taken care of at the hotel if they had their sh!t together Friday morning.  There were a bunch of other things that the hotel messed up while we were there, so needless to say I wont be staying there again.
    • What are you looking forward to this week?  Getting through the week!  That week back from travel is always hard and it doesn't help I was filling up my calendar while away with meetings and calls this week.

  • Highs? Pool party Saturday was fabulous.  Loved catching up with everyone and Maddox had a blast (though he wasn't all that into swimming itself during the festivities).  Lows? Post-party exhaustion!!  But it was totally worth it. ;)  Watch anything good?  Just the Olympics.  Watched a ton of swimming and gymnastics. Eat/make anything good?  Everyone brought fabulous goodies to the pool party.  We also went to Joe's Crab Shack in Gaithersburg yesterday night.  Our last couple of experiences there were meh but last night was awesome and DS loved sitting outside on the water (weather couldn't have been more perfect) and riding the train around the lake afterwards.  Read anything good?  Started Gone Girl, which is great so far.  FFCs, vents, AWs, etc?  Not much comes to mind.  I'll just say again how much fun Saturday was and how thrilled I was at the turnout.  It was great to see everyone and get a rare chance to catch up in person.  DH also got to reconnect with some of his favorite guys and developed a cute mancrush on remy's husband.   What are you looking forward to this week?  NT is Wednesday!!  I can't believe 12 weeks is already approaching and am a nervous wreck waiting for this u/s.

I hope your NT scan goes great! You have the cutest little bump already. Also, I just wanted to say M was sooo sweet with the other kids and especially toward the babies. He is going to be a great big brother! :)

Aw - thank you so much!!!  He loves babies so much - I think he's going to be so excited to get "one of his own".  ;)  He needs to learn to tone down his excitement a little - e.g., I think Juliana would have preferred to have been rocked a little more slowly ;) - but we'll get there.

  • High's - Getting to see my BFF from childhood.

Low's - Missing the pool party and the semi-relaxing weekend we had planned to go to PA and manage my mother's care.

    No tv.

Had some great Primanti Brother's sandwiches

    No reading.

I'm too tired for any FFC's, AW's, vents or anything else.

    Umm nothing, sadly.

    • Highs? My brother, SIL and nephew have been visiting for a few days so it's been so much fun to see them and watch my nephew try to interact with S. The pool party gtg was so much fun, it was great to chat with everyone and see their LO's.
    • Lows? Had another gall bladder attack last nit but it wasn't a bad as last weeks :(
    • Watch anything good? Watched the Olympics all weekend
    • Eat/make anything good? Had some yummy sushi last night for my birthday.
    • Read anything good? Nope
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? I'm getting annoyed with having to analyze every food I want to eat to decide if it will trigger another gall bladder attack. Looking forward to the doctors appointment this afternoon to get some definitive answers about surgery.

    • Highs? Finished my 16 mile run on Saturday in pretty decent shape considering how hot and humid it was during the run. BBQ Sunday afternoon with my bestie and that was awesome.
    • Lows? Yeah, I'm not a 115lbs so my thighs rub together when I run. Clearly I sweat more on Saturday because of the heat and I burned off my body glide and chaffed horribly.  Saturday night I was looking to buy spandex to wear under my shorts and all the store had was size small. DH said, "that's funny because you made it sound like the people who wear size small wouldn't need those so I guess that's why they have those left." I gave him and absolute death glare and he responded with, "I'm going to just walk away right now."
    • Awesome dude. Way to kick me when I'm down.
    • Watch anything good?  The Olympics, although I wasn't psyched with the first hour of the opening ceremony.
    • Eat/make anything good?   Had fish tacos Saturday night at the Cheesecake Factory and they were yummy.
    • Read anything good? Nope.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc?  Already vented above.  Dear DH, do NOT make comments about my weight when I'm running my a$$ off! I know I got super skinny when I trained for my first marathon and 10lbs has rejoined my legs since then, but I just don't think those 10lbs are going to ever leave me again.
DH never makes comments about my weight because he knows how much I work out, which is why that little comment on Saturday really stung.
    • What are you looking forward to this week?  More Olympics! Our new couch gets delivered on Thursday and I'm going to squeal like a kid when it's finally in our house.
  • imagegracie2762:
    • Highs? Getting some alone time on Friday night while DH was in Delaware. I missed him, but I was able to go to the gym, make spaghetti (yum!) for dinner, and watch the Olympic ceremony uninterrupted.
    • Lows? We had friends come visit on Saturday, and they essentially fought the whole time they were here.
    • Watch anything good? Still watching the whole series of Entourage. Caught a few olympic events, too.
    • Eat/make anything good? I made buffalo chicken deviled eggs last night. They are yummy.
    • Read anything good? I finished two books - "Still Missing" by Chevy Stevens, which was hard to get through due to the subject matter, and "Piece of my Heart" by Jane Green, which was OK but kind of uneventful. I started "The Ark" by Boyd Morrison, a thriller for a change of pace.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc? Vent: I lost weight at the beginning of this year, but have subsequently put it back on. I am so terrible with willpower and motivation, and I just get so frustrated with myself. I need to focus on just having a health lifestyle versus laying on the couch everyday after work and drinking wine.
    • What are you looking forward to this week? I actually made a meal plan for the week! We will actually have good food!
  • imagemeghann1046:
    •  I made a chocolate chip bundt cake that tasted great but the batter was so light and fluffy the chocolate chips separated from the batter.  So it was a layer of chocolate chips on the top and plain cake on the bottom.  I've never had that happen before.

I had this happen to me once before. Apparently, you're supposed to toss the chocolate chips with a dusting of flour before adding them to the batter when making chocolate chip cakes.

Edit: Oops! didn't see someone already told you this!

    • Highs?  I went to a 30th birthday party on Friday night and spent time with lots of friends, and I did a lot around the house.
    • Lows?  See vent below
    • Watch anything good?  Olympic swimming, True Blood
    • Eat/make anything good?  Steamed crabs, peach cake
    • Read anything good?  Not this weekend.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, etc?  Vent:  at the party on Friday I started to think about my own 30th birthday last August and how crappy this past year has been.  There were a few happy exceptions like an awesome vacation, and I know that many have it worse and I'm absolutely grateful for a lot, but it's really felt like one thing after another.  So thinking about that on Friday has put me in a down mood since then.  I'm ready to say goodbye to 30 and hello to (hopefully) better things at 31.
    • What are you looking forward to this week?  Baking some stuff for work later in the week, which means I'll have a few, but not too many, cupcakes/brownies around the house.
  • Misscastle and LLHR - thanks for the advice! My "go to" for last minute desserts is a choc chip bundt cake.  For some reason, I decided to try a new recipe and this happened.  I'll try coating them in flour next time.
