I'm planning a trip to Turkey in early September and trying to decide which area to go to since we don't have time to do both. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Re: Ephesus or Cappadocia?
Cappadocia. The Romans had a lot of colonies, but I only know of two places in the world with geological features like Cappadocia, and I don't think ?avolja varo? is as extensive (and I doubt it has the world-renowned ballooning conditions of Cappadocia).
My husband and I were in Turkey this past April and actually did both Cappadocia and Ephesus. I would choose Cappadocia because it is unlike anything else I have seen in Europe. Like the previous poster wrote there are a lot of roman colonies and Ephesus was nice it was very much like other places you could visit in Greece or Italy.
In Cappadocia we stayed in Goreme at the kelebek hotel http://www.kelebekhotel.com which was amazing. We also tried to do a balloon ride, but unfortunately it was canceled both days due to high winds. The open air museum in very neat and within walking distance, there are a lot of very nice hikes in the area, you can set up a tour of the underground cities, etc. Also if you go to cappadocia try to eat at the TopDeck restaurant in Goreme, one of the best meals we had in all of Turkey it's very much a family establishment and set in a small cave.
Hope this helps and I hope you have a wonderful vacation to Turkey!
