I asked for a raise, but...

I asked my boss for a raise almost three weeks ago.  He said he would discuss it with the other partner. I have not heard back from either of them.  I asked for a raise because I took a national certification test for my job, which they knew I was taking, and I passed.  I'm not the first one at my job to take this test and pass, so I don't really know what to do.

How do I bring it up to him again? Should I just say "Hey did you guys talk about my raise?" Or do I just assume I don't get a raise?  I didn't specify how much of a raise I wanted, so it's not that I asked for something too high. It took a lot for me to work up the courage to even ask for a raise, so I don't want to seem like I am pushing it.

Thanks.

Re: I asked for a raise, but...

  • Do you have regular meetings with your boss? I have meetings once a month and have been in this situation before, I waited until my next meeting to follow up. It doesn't hurt to follow up, the worst they can say is no. Maybe your boss is just busy and hasn't had time to contact you about it or is waiting for your next meeting. I have just asked for a raise and I was told in November and you better believe I will be following up when it gets closer!

  • We don't have regular meetings. And he was busy with something due so I waited until that was finished to even consider bringing it up to him again.
