(#) - First WW meeting tonight...GRRR

So I went tonight. (Aside: I've gained 13 pounds from my lowest weight, which was one year ago.)  I'd gone to this meeting site before (I previously had to quit for $$ reasons), and I couldn't stand the leader.  So I went to the other Monday night meeting because I'd seen a different leader at that one.  But who did I find tonight...none other than the leader I can't stand.

Seriously, this woman is terrible.  I find myself sitting through the whole meeting plotting ways to kill her without getting caught.  She has one of those personalities that is just super annoying, but I can't pinpoint exactly why.  She also creates some sort of forced participation exercise everyfucking week - like break into pairs and discuss X or let's go around the room and answer Y.  I get that participation is part of the meetings, and in the past I have participated, but sometimes you just want to sit in the back and listen.

I'm going to have to try to find another meeting that's convenient because if I keep going, I might get even fatter just to spite this person.  Unfortunately, the WW location with a gagillion different meeting times is on the other side of town.

  • Oh bummer. I don't know how WW works... do you have to go on Monday night?

Different locations have meetings at different times.  This is just the place that's closest to me.  If you find a WW location - as opposed to meetings held in community centers or churches - they have many more times.  The Y near me has four times, two on Monday and two on Saturdays (ha...8:15 Saturday morning is NEVER happening for me).  But MKE only has one actual WW location, so there aren't that many meeting times on my side of town. I looked online and found the next-closest place to me, which I will try next week. Thanks for letting me vent.  I have no idea why I hate this woman so much, but I do.

  • UGH that's annoying.  I stopped going to meetings for teh same reason.  Have you tried doing it online?  The boards are really great, and the points tracker is very helpful...

I've used the online points tracker, and I've perused the forums.  But like SparkPeople, I haven't had tons of success just doing that.  I don't know exactly why, but I need to show up each week to the meeting.  Let's just hope that the other meeting I try isn't run by a total twat.

  • Yeah, it only works for me b/c I post with the same group of people every day, and we always report our weigh-ins each week.  if I didn't have that accountability, I'd be hosed.
  • I feel your pain! Hating the leader (and not finding another workable time for me) was one of the reasons I quit WW the first time around. This time, I'm just making myself suck it up.

The lady at my meeting tonight wasn't so bad. I just wanted to wither and die in embarrassment as she kept staring at me and saying, "But I know you from somewhere?"

I was thinking, "Yes, you were the leader when I failed at this the second time. And the third time."

Here's to hoping third time (in HER meeting) is the charm. ;)

  • Definitely find a new meeting. I can't tell you what a difference the leader makes. I started going to a meeting and the leader was 150 years old and just was terrible. She never related to me. I found a different location that was just as convenient and the leader for that meeting is amazing. She is so full of energy and does things to keep the entire group motivated. Beverly has that personality that sometimes gets on my nerves because she is super happy and energetic - ALL the time but I keep going and she keeps me motivated.
    Slainte!

  • Hmmm...  I *may* think about doing meetings again.  I did it the very first time I was on WW, through WW at Work, but again, the leader was not relatable at all and had zero personality.  And i was in with a group of people who never drank water, never exercised, and were generaly clueless about nutrition.  It was the wrong group for me, but it did get me focusing on portion size and calories vs. quality of food (e.g. I love cheerios, but they never kept me full, so I'd eat at 10am.  I switched to oatmeal -- more filling and fewer calories, plus it's whole grains!)

Oh, I know!  I started in January 2007 and had a great leader.  I moved in August 2007, but my new leader was also good.  I lost 40 pounds in 2007!  I only went sporadically in the first part of 2008, and a lot of it was that we moved again in March and the new leader was terrible.  So 2 out of the 3 I've had have been good.  I'm half tempted to suck it up and pay for parking once a week at work (I ride the bus) just so I can drive to the other side of town for the good leader.
