My mom is trying to plan a little get together for my step-dads birthday in September. She asked me for ideas. She doesn't want to have anything at her house and she doesn't want to have a sit down meal anywhere. She was thinking of just serving appetizers. Can you think of anywhere in KC to do something like that? There will be about 20-30 people. We don't really want it in a bar because several of my family members are recovering still, my step-dad included. I'm at a loss... Thanks!

Hmmm... any particular part of town that would work better than others?
A few ideas I thought of right away:
We had our rehearsal dinner at Lidia's and it was great. They have the private loft area upstairs and they did such a great job. The private dining menu is online and it looks like they have some heavy appetizer options if you don't want to do a sit down dinner. http://www.lidias-kc.com/private-dining/

What about a Mexican place? Even if you didn't want to do sit down, you could do a buffet style taco bar or something that would be more casual. Manny's is what comes to mind first (only because that's my favorite!) but I'm sure there are other places that might work too.

Thanks! I will look into those. Wny part of town except like Blue Springs, Independence, etc. Most people are in Johnson County.
Last night I thought of Tom Fooleries on the Plaza. They have the upstairs area that it fun.
I always forget about Manny's. He loves Mexican food!
A few other options I thought of:
Blue Moose in Prairie Village (they have a big covered patio that I think you can reserve, might be good in September if it's not too hot)
75th Street Brewery in Waldo (I love their food!)
Salty Iguana in Prairie Village if you want to go the Mexican route.
