Ok, ladies - I don't know how we want to do these things, but one thing I've done in the past is post menus and plans for exercise. That helps keep me accountable, b/c if I tell you four days in a row that I am going to swim, and then I never do, I feel like a nerd.
So, if that works for you, bring it! I'd love to see what you're eating and doing as exercise. If you have a different need or challenges, post 'em here, and I'm sure this group will have some smart things to say about it!
Re: (#) Monday check-in
I have to join a gym. ?It's far too cold to run outside.
I can't swim again until mid-December. ?They are fixing the tram tracks on the way to my pool and I cant figure out how to get around it, so I have to wait until the tram is running again.
?
Here's my plan:
Breakfast: oatmeal with raisins, flaxmeal, applesauce; skim milk
Lunch: chicken breast, grilled squash, couscous, apple
Snack: skim latte
Dinnah: whole wheat pasta with homemade sauce (Core, for you WW-ers), broccoli
Exercise: I already walked a mile each way to my physical therapy. If I'm not totally exhausted, I'd like to hit the pool after work, but I'm 50/50 on it.
Et vous?
B: Oats and honey granola bar
S: 3 Hershey's minis (bad)
L: Leftover Cavatappi Pasta with peas and "chicken" - recipe with nutrition facts in blog, and a tiny slice of sweet potato pie
Exercise: hoping to do my hip hop video for 10-20 minutes if I don't fall asleep before
Calories so far after lunch - 929. Too many! But I should be on target to finish around 1550, which is my goal.
OOO I want to play!!
Todays menu is as follows:
Breakfast: Maple nut oatmeal and banana for breakfast
Lunch: Granola bar, rice & bean (dairy free) Amy's burrito & Apple
Dinner: Black Bean Burger, salad and baked potato w/chives
I am eating vegitarian and avoiding most dairy right now.
I should walk tonight, but I probably wont. Plus it gets so dark here by the time I can walk, and I hate walking in the dark by myself. At least that is my excuse.
I will be walking tomorrow with my Mom and did a lot of walking yesterday, so I dont feel too bad.
I am going to the Gym this evening. I will be on the treadmill for 40 minutes doing intervals of 2,4, and 6 MPH, and lifting weights.
I have had about 300 Calories so far but having Grilled Chicken and Veggies for dinner.
I'm really starting in earnest on the food part tomorrow, since my first WW meeting is tonight (and since I ate leftover meat pies for lunch).
Usual breakfast: smoothie made with yogurt, milk and fruit; small amount of granola
Lunch this week: chicken korma with rice tomorrow, turkey sandwiches W, TH, and probably chicken biryiani (sp?) with rice on Friday. Snacks of string cheese/yogurt and clementines.
Tomorrow's dinner will be fajitas with leftover t-day Turkey (extra peppers!) and guacamole.
Exercise: 30 minutes elliptical every morning and light upper body weights. Swimming T/TH evenings. I'm going to re-evaluate at the end of the month to see if I should re-join the Y to go swimming more often (the city pool is only open 2x/week). The H is a little unsure if I'll use it enough to get my money's worth, so we'll see.
Do you make your own black bean burgers? I'd love to find a good recipe.
Wow! Look at all you rock stars! I'm impressed.

BB -- one thing that helped me was trying to get away from the mentality of "good" vs. "bad". You aren't bad if you eat chocolate. You aren't good if you eat an apple. It's a choice. Just a choice. Good and bad tend to include judgments on character and you as a person. You are an awesome person who made a choice that isn't directly aligned with your goals. So what? If the results of the choice make you feel yucky, eh, learn from it and don't do it next time the chocolate is taunting you. Or, if you said, "hey, I want some chocolate today!" and you have room for it in your calorie list, enjoy! Either way, you're not good or bad b/c of something you ate, lady.
</PSA>
Btw, does it amaze you how many food choices we make each day? I remember reading it is in the hundreds. When I really start paying attention, I realize how many times a day we are faced with temptation and have the opportunity to make a healthy choice. It's HARD to do it all the time. But just walking back from PT, I passed a crepe place, about four Starbucks, and countless lunch spots. Oh, and Trader Joes, which has to-die-for chocolate covered pretzels that I've been dreaming of. With that many opportunities, it's amazing I haven't just given up. (Although, I suppose I did, and that's what got me in this mess in the first place)
Is anyone doing anything to reward themselves? Either mini-milestone rewards, or final weight rewards?
HA HA no. I am not a chef. I really like the Garden Burger Black Bean Chipotle ones. Frozen foods are more my style
When I finally lose it all (goal is by end of '09), I am buying an entirely new wardrobe. I will wait until I keep it off a couple of months, but I plan to save up during those couple of months and probably buy $3,000 worth of new clothes.
Darn y'all. I am just not prepped to start with the healthy foods yet. I won't be going to the grocery again until Friday.
B- strawberry pop tart
L- peanut butter & sugar free jelly sandwich
S- a couple of handfuls of Dorito's Cool Ranch chips
D- hamburgers with 93% lean ground meat
And I know tonight I am going to have a piece of DH's black out birthday cake we have left from last night!
Rock on! That's an awesome reward.
I'm getting diamond studs
DH had been hinting around about them for Christmas, and I'd been wanting them for a while... but it will be good incentive when i want a brownie. Brownie? or DIAMONDS? [:-D]
Thanks, soprano!! I know, I shouldn't get down on myself about that stuff. I used to be better about allowing some dessert, but that's because when I first started my diet I'd really plan it into my day. I'd sacrifice and eat really healthy stuff all day and then eat a small brownie for dessert. Now, it's like I see chocolate and I eat it. I haven't gone way over my calories or gained any weight, but I haven't lost any in like a month either, so it's clearly starting to catch up with me. I think this check in will actually be really helpful for me. Let's do it every day!
As for a reward, I plan to go do a mani pedi day when I lose 50 total pounds. Actually, I've been stuck in the same range of 10 pounds (I won't say because I don't want you guys to know how much I weigh--even though it's 30 pounds lighter, the number still scares me) for like 3 months. When I get out of this set of 10, I am throwing a damn party!
I've already had to buy new clothes, which is really fun. When I lose all 150 pounds from my starting weight, I think I'll just be insanely happy for how much better I'll look and feel. I can't even imagine myself that thin. I've been overweight since I was 3 years old. I can't imagine being in a normal height weight range!
When you put it that way, I gotta go with BROWNIE! But you're talking to someone with a colored stone in her e-ring. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get rid of the side diamonds and the diamonds on the wedding band, too. I'm not a diamond person at all. The H can't believe he found a woman who doesn't want diamonds (or jewelry generally) and likes both football & beer more than he does.
Actually, the end of the college football season is the best thing that can happen for my weight. I spend most Saturdays parked in front of the couch, drinking a 6-pack and eating junk food.
Ooh, yay for diamonds!!
OK I'll play because I need to get back to the gym. I've been slacking big time.
Tomorrow, I will go to the gym at 6:30 am and spend one hour doing a brisk walk. I ususlly get about 4 miles in.
(disclaimer- I can only accomplish this if H does not have to leave early to get into NYC. This always messes me up since I can't leave the girls if he won't be there
)
I think that my biggest reward will just be feeling better about myself. I have been pretty down on myself about my weight the last couple of years, so I will be insanely happy when I get to my goal weight.
I will certianly need some new clothes too
I want to lose about 40lbs, and I am hoping to do that in 6-8 months. So I am hoping to coordinate the shopping with my birthday gift cards.
I don't need new clothes. I just want to fit back into all of my old ones! I'm also planning to run several races in the spring, and I want to improve my speed.
I love checking in-- thanks for starting this! And I shall have to think of a fun reward...
B: Oatmeal
Snack #1: Green pepper w/ hummus
L: Leftover turkey chili
Snack #2: Apple
Snack #3: Blueberries & plain yogurt
Exercise: 1 hr body pump class at the gym. It's killer! My goals are to go to that class 3x a week and do cardio 2 or 3 x a week. I'll mix things up when the weather gets nicer.
I really want to try your hummus and green pepper snack! I love hummus!! Maybe I'll try broccoli with mine...
Red peppers are great with hummus as well.
I hate raw broccoli, personally, but really dig it if cooked. Speaking of which, I'm about to do that myself!
Ladies, I'm impressed by all the great efforts already underway! Thanks for being added encouragement -- i need all I can get right now!
Well, my reward for finishing the 30 day shred is dinner at the French Laundry. I'm halfway there, but I fell off the wagon two weeks ago with DH's birthday and have stayed off due to Thanksgiving, so I'm thinking of starting over. My SIL is coming to live with us in January, so I'm hoping she's good motivation. I want to do yoga or pilates classes with her.
As far as eating, I've been doing pretty well. Breakfast is usually either two eggs and a piece of ww toast, or an apple with peanut butter. Lunch is usually a sandwich or leftovers. Dinner is usually chicken or fish with a veggie from our CSA or a salad, along with either brown rice or quinoa.
DH and I always joke that the FL should be our reward for weight loss. This way, we can look at a cookie and think, "will this taste better than Thomas Keller magic? No. Put it down."
I usually eat yogurt and granola for breakfast. Lunch today was a turkey sandwich (with stuffing and gravy on it...I'm trying to use up all of our leftovers, so not exactly the healthiest choice). Dinner will be turkey soup (I made a huge pot of it last night.
I need to go shopping, we don't really have any fruit in the house.
My problem is figuring out an exercise solution. I can't afford a gym membership right now. And our neighborhood is a little sketchy...I don't like walking/jogging around with my iPod on nor do I like wandering around by myself at the time of the day I'd most prefer to exercise (6 am).
Mmm hummus. I could eat it for every meal. I usually go with green peppers, but red are great, too.
I've not tried it with broccoli... let me know how it is!
green pepper = gross but red yellow or orange with hummus = heaven!
My reward for getting wtihin 5 of goal (and losing 2 sizes) and getting to a place where I am HAPPY in my own skin finally.. was tons of new clothes! Granted... much needed because mine all looked ridiculous on me (love wen you can take jeans off without unbuttoning them!).
WHen I lose the last 5 I want to get a $$$ pair of designer type jeans. My Rock & Republics are super loose on me... I can still wear them but more a baggy casual look now.
