It's Thursday, anyone have an UO?

Re: It's Thursday, anyone have an UO?

  • I am tired hearing about Chick-Fil-A from both sides. Maybe it was a good thing I forgot my phone at home so I couldn't really check FB. Live and let live, people!

  • More of a vent, but whatever.  H got a call from his brother yesterday asking if he had talked to their dad.  H said no, why?  Apparently brother is trying to contact dad so that he can tell him that he needs to send them money to buy their kids' school clothes.  The fuucck?  Who does that?  Their dad will do it, too.  Either they're mooches or we are idiots.  I just don't ever want to get a handout that comes with strings, I guess.

I was seriously saddened by the outpouring of 'support' for hate. This isn't a question of freedom of speech or religion (there was never any discussion of government intervention/jailing/etc for his bigoted comments and practices.

I am surprised that people are objecting to capitalism at work here.  If you don't like where they are sending profits, then don't contribute to the profits.  Chick Fil A is no victim here.  We aren't talking about just expressing an opinion, it's donating millions of dollars to an organization that uses donor funds to lobby for the DEATH PENALTY for being gay in other countries and to create anti-equality legislation here.

If there was any way to live and let live with Cathy's comments, I might be on board for that, but the fact is there are people who CAN'T live and let live because of his actions.

Didn't most people already know about this guy's beliefs a long time ago? I know quite a few who didn't eat there before he actually came out and said what he said.

Right ^^, I don't understand why all the hoopla when his comments/beliefs shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone? I also know of people who already didn't eat there, I thought his feelings on the subject were already known.

  • Based on my Facebook feed yesterday, my decision to NOT go to Chick Fil-A was a pretty unpopular opinion.

I have known his beliefs for a while, but I guess I never really realized the extent of them until recently. And so I have opted to not give my money to that company for the time being because funding the company means I'm funding a cause I don't agree with.

I promise if they had come out and said they were supporting Islamic charities, there would be a whole different kind of outcry from people.

  • I definitely love Dasher more than I love Rudy.  Maybe it is because I saw those little brown eyes of hers filled with fear when we rescued her from the interstate or maybe it is because Rudy has boundry issues, I don't know. But I definitely love her more and DH gets onto me about it.

Hell, if I want to be perfectly honest, I probably love Dasher more than my husband.

    Imagine that!

  • I have known what CFA gives its money to for some time and haven't eaten there for some time either. CFA boycotting hipster, right here!

I think Cathy's comments brought the situation more into the forefront for a lot of people and that is why they are boycotting now.

I'll just say ditto to Wendy on the 1st Amendment stuff. His rights/CFA rights are in no way being violated by a large number of equality-minded people choosing not to eat there.

And if you don't want to boycott, that's fine. BUT, the sheer number of people who very PROUDLY went out yesterday in an organized effort to support the hateful giving practices of CFA astounded and disgusted me.

This (minus boycotting for a long time). I knew in a vague sense that he gave to causes that I didn't agree with, but I didn't know the specifics of who he donated to, how devastating of an impact those groups had, or how dedicated he was to that cause (or whether he used his personal money or direct company profits).

The gleeful support of hatred hurts my heart.

This was what got to me, too. All of the people acting so proud of themselves, patting themselves on the back for "doing the right thing."

I don't think that the majority of people do know the specifics.  I think for 90% of the population it's more like "oh, I'm going to support CFA because I believe in Christian marriage."  I don't think they really get any further into their political statement than that.

  • I don't think sleep training an infant is this barbaric, inhumane practice that 90% of the bump thinks it is.

As a Christian, I have no place judging someone else. I didn't eat at CFA because of the message it would send to my gay family members or acquaintances. To them, CFA's stance and giving are very hurtful and condemning. Yes, I believe the Bible's words to be true, but that's my personal belief. Eating at a restaurant on a special "buycott" day that condemns their lifestyle would only further distance us, and why would I want to cause someone hurt?

I just want to yell at people on Facebook who claim Christians are being persecuted in this country, and that CFA is experiencing reverse discrimination. Give me a break. You are seriously off your rocker if you think there's true persecution for Christianity in the USA. We are so, so lucky here. People lose their lives and families and are tortured in other areas of the world.

I completely agree, and having a child who sleeps well is a glorious thing.
